I have a problem that seems related to the Drivers issue.
When i play some games and related stuff. I sometimes get the message "AMD Drivers have stopped working and have been resetted". And my games basicly crash, and i have to reboot the PC or restart the game. I have no idea what the problem could be. I've had this problem for a long time now.

Could be the card that's starting to go bad.
But, to rule out other stuff, set the system to stock speeds, reformat, install latest CCC and retest.

Never could understand why when you update an AMD gfx driver you have to go through ALL the steps in the OP but it is sadly true. It really would be nice for the built in uninstaller to do it and just take out the old and put in the new but it's almost like ATI/AMD drivers embed themselves and have to 'rooted out'. I'll bet over the last 4 years I've updated at least 6 to 8 times with the new releases and found out the hard way if you don't do as BradlyW has pointed out you'll be disappointed with the results, the drivers leave so much behind that they interfere with the new...bummer.

Bradly W one question; I noticed there is a new AMD Chipset driver out today: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx# along with a gfx driver

Does an update of the Chipset require the same steps as a Gfx update?

Then it's the third card this year that's "busted".
Could static electricity destroy the card? If thats so it could be the case here.

For the chipset, you should be ok to just install the latest without having to remove anything. I don't know this for sure, but this is the case with Intel.

Hello,
It could very well be the card. It seems your card failure rate is high right? How long have you used your PSU? Are you over volting in the BIOS? A lot of moisture in the air in your room? Had anyone checked your electrics? Do you use a good surge protector?

Hey BradleyW.
I specificly created this account to just ask you about a problem I have.
The battlefield 4 beta is out, when I first started playing it I was useing AMD 13.4, which made the game lagy. So I used the CCC setup to uninstall the supposed drivers, rebooted computer and then installed the 13.10 beta 2 drivers - which has been updated for battlefield 4.

Im having a big problem though, I can't play games with crossfire, the game just crashes/I get directX error (all games that is).
I am so incredibly fruststrated about this ****, I hate AMDs drivers, they always mess things up when you are going to update it.
So now I can only play with 1 card, I can't play with crossfire. Also frame pacing doesnt do anything as far as I have noticed.

Should I follow your guide to uninstallment or is it enough to uninstall with the CCC setup, reboot and then go to device manager and click my GPUs and uninstall the drivers on them too.
Please respond smile.gif

specs:
Windows 7 64-bit
16gb ram
crossfire 2gb hd 6950s
Phenom II x4 OC 3.4
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 MB ver.f7

I have a friend that constantly updates his drivers for AMD and he crossfires two HD 6450's, if my memory is correct, and we had a long discussion about the hassles of scrubbing the rig of older downloads and he said over the years he has found that the simplest way was to go to Device Manager > Display Adapters and just uninstall it there and reinstall the new one. I kept arguing the point of CCC and having to go to regedit and make sure all traces are gone and also all references in the directories in the drives and he insisted that the only other thing he did was run CCleaner > Registry clean right after the uninstall to take out the old info. Swears he has never had an issue and another friend of his seconded that and said he too does the same thing with no issues. I have tried doing the manual uninstall and it is a PITA you never do feel you get everything. I do know the chip set updates don't require all the hassle they do seem to install right over the older versions with no ill effects.

Bdradley,

As a fellow OCer I just wanted to say THANK YOU, this is a very informative guide and worked like a charm, however during the installation of my new card's drivers (went from a Sapphire 7950 to a MSI 7870GHz edi.; before anyone says anything the 7950 was an open-box item from Newegg and it ended up having problems, switched it for the 7870 which I got for $170 new!) I received a "kdbsync.exe has stopped working" error after installation, I then updated from Catalyst 13.1 to 13.9 and the error seems to have subsided. There's an easy work-around if you google it but the Catalyst update seems to have solved that issue for me for now. Once again thank you for taking the time to make this very well written guide, +rep!

Best,

Elvin Blen

I began Thursday as happy as could be, as my pair of Gigabyte Windforce 7950s arrived, my upgrade from my 5870 and the future cards to power my folding rig. Fast forward to today, and I'm about to start pulling my hair out here. I followed the guide through ten times, and yet after uninstalling catalyst (which so far is a perfect 10/10 in triggering a BSOD) and cleaning the registry of it's remnants, I power down, install the new cards, and hook up my HDMI cable, reboot, and nothing... My computer will post but I get no display. HELP!
