How To: Remove Your AMD GPU Drivers (New - 2016) - Page 30

Hmm, since just by looking at the fact that you upgraded from a 5870 (I assume single card) to X-fire 7950's that's a substantial power consumption increase, what PSU do you have running your system and what is your system if you could post so that we can start troubleshooting from there.

I've tried just installing one card at a time and I still got blank screens, even after unplugging everything, pooping out the CMOS battery to do a BIOS memory reset to stock everything and the 1333 default on the memory. Just not getting any video output through the HDMI, I tried installing one in the x8 slot of the motherboard and Windows recognizes it, says it's working properly, but it wouldn't recognize it in F2H to add as a folding slot, nor give me any video output... regardless of what slot I put either of them into...

My system:

Azza Hurrican 2000 case (2 performance 120mm fans on the H80, 2 - 120mm LED fans in the door of the HDD bays, 1-120mm slim regular fan behind CPU socket of motherboard, 2 side intake and 2 top exhaust 200mm LED fans)
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5, F11 bios
AMD FX-8120 @ 3.8GHz
16GB (4x 4GB) G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600, not overclocked, 9-9-9-24-33-2T
2-Gigabyte Windforce3 7950s - the primary BIOS installed by the previous owner is the F43 BIOS, I'm waiting to hear back from Melee about that the other might be. The cards power up and the fans run and all that, just no display output through the HDMI... and unfortunately I don't have a DVI cable atm, though I don't think that should be the issue...
Lite-On 12x BR-Burner
Corsair H80
LEPA G900 900W

I would think that 900 watts from a gold rated power supply should still give me plenty of power to run these cards, or at the very least one of them. By what I have in my system and the settings I'm running, according to Thermaltake's PSU wattage calculator, my system should only be needing 570W of continuously available power and about 650W at 100% CPU TDP and full system power load.

As far as you know is this guide still good 2 years later?

I know the vendors love to change everything up, maybe change a folder name or registry entry name .... noticed any of that?

I had a pc running vista 32bit, ran all the games great with my 5770 rad. Upgrade to a ssd, did a clean install of win 7 64bit, and also a rad 7770 and now in certain games more than others it will freeze, screen goes black, sound may advance slightly, and in 30 seconds the game comes back (and so long as the offending item is moved off screen, it will stay unfrozen. )

I even tried booting back to vista, same issue. I was thinking drivers but now I'm wondering if its hardware.... funny thing is I tweaked the fan curve that once the gpu hit 40C it ramped to 100%, and I don't recall it ever breaking 50C ...

At any rate. I'd just like to be sure the guide is still up to date before I try it.

I've used it with Win7x64 without issues. If you don't find a item listed just move to the next one.

Just flashed my XFX 290 to 290x so I'm going to try it with Win8.1 today to see.

Hey I was wondering if anybody could help me out as I appear to be in a bit of a predicament now. I followed this guide through the steps as I was trying to get as much performance as possible out of my acer aspire laptop and i uninstalled the catalyst drivers and reinstalled the newest drivers off the amd website and now my games will barely run/ crash everytime. I am a novice and now I am lost i tried to run through the steps again uninstalling all avg ati related files and reinstalling the newest amd drivers but I must have messed something up. I am thinking it has something to do with the original uninstall using the express uninstall that removed my chipset drivers? Any input would be much appreciated! Laptop is an Acer aspire V3 551G

Hello , i just registered to the forum , to say Thanks you to the OP your guide realy helped me to fix an issue about AMD GPU Display . Thanks you smile.gif
post #298 of 452
UPDATE: Went to the acer website, downloaded the AMD VGA drivers and installed, problem solved.

I followed the guide but I think I still have the drivers uninstalled... weird since I did this when I moved from my 5850 to my 560 Ti 448 and it caused screen to dip in resolution... I'm on 1440p now.

Followed this, http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx#Win7, feel ok. I'm rebooting and dropping my 770 in there. 5850 - 560 Ti 448 - 7970 - sold for $400 biggrin.gif - 770 - 290(?)
