ive had issues with ccleaner removing registry files that caused all my media to be unrecognized. pretty much working one day, updated ccleaner, ran it, after that, no media files were playable, windows didnt know what to do, and these were just basic mp3 files, nothing fancy like flac or similar. As for messing up chipset drivers or anything like that, i dont know, but ccleaner can cause problems. not everyone will have it,but i can cause problems along with anything that deals with the registry.

User error? You click 1 button! How the hell can it be user error?

Great guide good job. I vote this thread to be stickied:thumb:

So I have a question. I noticed that there are traces of ATI registries also in HKEY Current User section also. Do we delete these here also?

I can't write the exact path because I'm on my laptop at the moment which isn't ati:p

This probably just remembers if you unlocked ATI Overdrive or not, so there is no need tbh.

Mr. W: Nice post. I've been having BSOD's after upgrading my ATI-AMD drivers, so I want to try your technique BUT ...
dumb question ...
Obviously my display/monitor is plugged into my ATI-AMD card. If I uninstall everything ATI-AMD per your guide, won't my display/monitor go black? Then what do I do?

Or, should I first connect my display/monitor to another socket-plug on the rear of my computer so that the Windows default graphics will run the display/monitor while I follow all your steps?

Thanks!!

You will still have a picture after uninstall.

Mr. W: Followed your instructions for deleting old ATI's, but on your second reboot (after deleting ATI from regedit ... SOFTWARE), I find ati2evxx running again as a double-process, and in Device Manager, there is an ATI driver that is slightly newer than the (safe) old one I had been using. I thought Device Manager wouldn't have anything!

(The safe old driver I was using before the deletes was Driver Date 8/3/2010, Driver Version 8.762.0.0, which included ati2dvag.dll version 6.14.0010.7111 (English) dated 8/3/2010. Now, the self-installed driver from Device Manager is Driver Date 1/26/2011, Driver Version 8.821.0.0, which includes the same ati2dvag.dll. I am predicting this will trigger a BSOD.)

Note: I have NOT yet run the install for the latest ATI driver package 11.4.

Also, there is no longer an ATI entry in Add-Delete Programs.

So, is my Windows machine automatically re-installing ATI stuff on each reboot? If yes, what should I do?

Thanks!!
