Dont get x58 build,
its a old technology,
get sandybridge build,
cpu- i7 2600k (currently the best quad core cpu)
mobo- asus p8p67 ws revolution
psu- 2x msi gtx580 twin frorzII/lightning
ram- 4x4gb corsair vengeance/gskill ripjawsX
NOTE: u dont need 24gb ram,completely overkill,dont get corsair dominator ram,because they are 1.65v ram,get corsair vengeance/gskill ripjawsX ram,these are 1.5v ram,
sandybridge setup work better with 1.5v
Hope u like this

Thanks for the input. Is there a reason you would suggest a Quad Core over a Six Core processor?

Do you have a recommended motherboard for 6 core i7?

I don't mind having too much RAM as much as I hate having too little to function inside composites and multiple programs open at once. I like the suggestion for the Corsair Vengeance at 1.5v from the Dominator at 1.65v. I'll make the switch.

Great note on the MSI 580's cards. They've been running a little cooler than most 580's. Though early driver issues are possible, it would be the same for most of the newer model cards.

i7 2600k is much cheaper than intel 6core,
when both of them are OC'd i7 2600k performs almost equal,
i7 2600k oc much better,u can easily reach 5ghz with a decent cooler.
Whats your budget for x58 mobo?
Pls mention it,I'll recommend u the best one

Hey Intel guys, what socket should he go for so he can easily upgrade down the road? I know how Intel likes to change sockets all the time... is the 1155 the way to go for now?
Seemed like I read somewhere that some of the new upcoming Intel CPUs will be released in this socket?

I don't know to much about Ivy Bridge... will there be 6/8/12 core CPUs for 1155 socket? For what he is doing the more cores the better, that's why he was thinking Gulftown orignally. But if there is gonna be a 6+ core 1155 socket CPU down the raod then it is defintiely worth it to go quad core 1155 now

I feel like you guys are messing with my head here.

I could go with a Quad i7 LGA1155 and switch to the IvyBridge processors whenever they are released (can't find dates). I also can't find out how many cores the IvyBridge chips will be offering.

Here's my problem with all of this. A lot of times people building new machines want processors for speed but can't actually utilize the full strength it offers. I will %100 be maxing every morsel of power out of my computer during productions (4,6,8,12,16 cores). I originally sat down to structure this build thinking I'll grab two 6 core AMD's 24-32 GB of RAM (a lot of studios are running these), and a set of top notch graphics cards.

Then looking at how much the architecture of the chips have advanced I could possibly get by with i7 6 core. Plus I would get to maintain my comfort with Intel.

I get the feeling with Quad core i7 I will not have the power I need worthy of an upgrade.

I think I'm more confused now than when I started.

Thanks for the help guys.

If there will be 6core ivy bridge cpu's,I dont think the 6core model will work with lga1155 socket,
so,if u need extra core,
get:
cpu- i7 970
mobo- asus rampageIII formula
Its a very nice 6core build,
hope this helps to clear out your confusion
