So I won a Vertex 2 120GB..

So, I won the 120GB Vertex 2 from Primordial Computers. I'm aware of the increase in general system performance from using an SSD. What I'm interested in is the expected lifespan of one of these.
Say I do all the Windows 7 tweaks for an SSD; Some of these would include 'short stroking' 25%, to make my 120GB into 90GB and leaving that 25% unallocated, installation of a few key programs onto the SSD, etc.

Am I looking at a lifespan of +2-3 years?
There's a game I play alot and it patches once a month, which means it has to be reinstalled on a regular basis. On average, the game takes up about <3.5GB and that gets replaced every month. Would that have a big impact on lifespan? Deleting and reinstalling that 3.5GB every month.
Also, if I were to put my primary music collection on the drive (about <20GB).. Considering its read only, would that have a big impact, other than using space?

If I were to put my music on the SSD, would I be better off making a second partition specifically for it? Seeing as I'll have to reinstall windows a few times.

EDIT: I didnt notice I had the same thread title as someone else did lol

You got a free Vertex 2 so who cares about how long it will last! You could mount it on the wall and frame it...it would probably last longer that way but you'll never use it! You could partition the drive for music or whatever but most people will have that kinda stuff on platter drives which are far more economical than storing it on an ssd which is already space restricted to start with.

U have 4 500GB hard drives. Put music on there

No reason to have it on the SSD.

as for lifespan...download ssdlife. it should last for a really long time.

I don't really neeed to have the music on the SSD, though with alot of the 96khz/24bit stuff would benefit greatly.

How about initial setup? With only 6 SATA ports on my motherboard, and 4 of them setup in RAID, it leaves 2.. And the way my controllers work, is if I have RAID enabled on one controller, the only options on the other is RAID or IDE. How would I go about enabling AHCI? Do I set the SSD up as a RAID 1 array, with one drive?
