Some motherboard compatibility questions

Thread Starter
My steam friend bought a new motherboard for his computer, in hopes of being able to upgrade cpu and ram later.

My question is, will be be able to transfer his CPU and heatsink to this motherboard?

Here is the computer, and I also have limited knowledge of it.

Heres the new mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tent-_-text-_-

From what I understand, its a fanless heatsink, and it screws in. Thats all I know.

This is probably a tough one, I can't figure it out so I am hoping you guys can

Thanks!

Yea I see no documentation on what socket that PC is. The 3800+ came in a socket 939 and an AM2 so you will probably have to call their support and ask them. You could also take it apart and look near the processor some something that says 939 or AM2. If its an AM2 then yes, you can more than likely use it.

Well its a 939 socket...so no. Here is what I found.

The Motherboard in that gateway you posted is a socket 939 or so it says on gateways support site. He will not be able to put that 3800+ cpu in that new motherboard from newegg he just bought. Not sure if I am understanding the post, correct me if I'm wrong

Alright I confirmed with CPU Z that its AM2, and I had him buy a cheap heatsink with a fan that will probably be alot better anyways.

SO this fan will deffinitly work right! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835200042

hope so lmao, I told someone to buy it xD

Yep, it should work haha. Crappy Gateway documentation
post #8 of 9
that setup should be fine, not to much benefit at the min, he might be able to get a small OC on that fan

He will need ddr2 ram, that spec says its DDR, check with cpu-z incase that document is talking crap

$4 more but 2x as good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-075-_-Product
