C300 and Marvell Controller

Crucial C300 64GB SSD
Firmware: 0006
Windows 7 Ultimate 64x

Now this is interesting! I swapped the Marvell driver on my Marvell 9123 Controller to msahci and got very interesting results:

Marvell Driver Version 1.0.0.1042

msahci Driver that comes with Win7 SP1

1. Noticeable increase in sequential Read speed
2. But massive drops in 4K speeds, especially in 4K-64 Read

I am puzzled.. What am I doing wrong? I've heard that msahci driver is better than Marvell driver. And that Marvell driver is only aimed for older OS's. Then why such low speeds?

Well, since noone replied to my question here, I am going to quote what I was told at Crucial, in case someone finds it useful.

Quote:
The Marvell driver does give better 4k speeds on the Marvell controller from what I've seen. The reason to not use it is for stability reasons and its lack of trim. Not it's performance.

Also, if 4k is your preferred score (and it probably should be ) then don't even use the Marvell controller at all. The sata 2 controller built into your chipset is likely to be faster than the Marvell controller at those sizes.

For best performance and total score move the drive to the intel controller now and be sure you then load Intel RST Drivers and enable Write Back Cache in Device Manager for the drive

Intel RST Drivers are here, first link
