But yes, much less painfull indeed.

This "app store" is the only feature of 8 I like so far (cloud based login ftl imho)!

Thanks for catching that...fixed now.

Also...its "painful" not "painfull".

Apple has a bad reputation though. Apple's previous "App Store" is restrictive to the point of being anti-competitive, and also the only way to install apps on the device. Its not that far of a stretch to imagine them locking OSX down like they do with iOS.

Microsoft's reputation is exactly the opposite, since they aren't the ones charging $100/year for the right to develop on their platform.

Its good to finally see this happen, and as long as they don't do something stupid to mess it up I think this could be the biggest milestone in OS development since the web browser. For the first time we will have a central distribution system on every major operating system.

If you were to travel back in time to the 90s and tell someone that in 15 years you would be able to simply download any program you wanted from the internet and install it without the need for any kind of disk they would laugh. I wouldn't be surprised if in another decade you'll be telling your kids that back in your day you had to download an exe using a web browser and manually install every piece of software, since app stores didn't exist.

I hate going to dozens of websites to download all of the essentials.

It would be neat if you could have a favorites app list that saves to maybe a LIVE account. So when you do have fresh install you could do a 1-click install of all your favorite apps, similar to Ninite

Except it cuts out the step of installing the applications yourself. Everything will be streamlined, as with Steam and every other "App Store." I know Cnet has the TechTracker thing, but it's a bit more cumbersome.

This will also be so readily available and known to laymen Windows users, which make up the majority, that the uptake should be pretty swift. This perpetuates into a bigger, more active, and better-screened content delivery system.

Only time will tell though. Even the biggest companies have epic flops all the time.

This is retarded!
There is a reason why I like Windows over OSX, and here MS is trying to be like Apple. I'm like... flabbergasted at this stupid garbage.
More like Apple and MS are trying to be more like Linux...

Oh... look at me I'm so clever... look at my clever spelling of Windows.
LAME.
Don't be jealous...

Just FYI, Apple would never try to 'take a piece' of MS, and not because MS would stomp them.

You can't expect much from a company that's staple product is stolen. Windows isn't the market leader because it's better, it's because Microsoft knows how to market it.

could be good if implemented well.

package management would be nice but one can dream
