Think a little bit harder...If XP Mode did work, there would be no need to upgrade to Autocad 2010.
BTW...thanks for the grammar correction

Maybe you just play stuff like Left 2 Dead, which doesn't need much RAM, if that is the case then it's ok, but there are games coming out that need more than 2GB. FYI, Crysis Warhead at 720p with Medium Settings uses 1.3GB of RAM all to itself, measured it using Devmode.

Remember that 2GB of usable RAM also has to store all other programs (AV, etc) and Windows processes, which leaves less than 2GB for the game itself, meaning it will acess the HDD a lot more, making things slower.

As to the programs you use, well, the new versions will surely use all the RAM they can get. The (minimum) system requiremens for AutoCAD 10 are already at 2GB of RAM, so... if you can get those to work at home too, you'll probably see a big boost in performance.
Obviously, it's not bothering me at the current moment and for the last time I understand the limitations of my current OS. You are telling me something I'm already aware of. Also, I'm aware of the extra ram I will probably need for my rendering programs. Like I had stated earlier...

I had stated this in my 1st post...

Which means that I will eventually upgrade but if I can hold out longer, I will

As to the extra RAM you will need for the rendering programs, you better get Windows 7 64-bit first, so you can start using the 4Gb you already have.

As to the rest, you actually also said something about maybe even jumping Windows 7 altogether, and go straight to Windows 8. Considering that you were actually considering this:

that made me think you didn't know what you were talking about, having bought a high-end gaming card with 2GB of VRAM and pairing that with Windows XP 32-bit and even considering jumping Windows 7 - that sentence of yours, clearly led me to believe you didn't know the implications of using Windows XP 32-bit with the system you have. It wasn't prejudice, given I don't even know you, it was just logical reasoning.

FYI, I have just upgraded to 8GB of RAM, because my web browsing alone (many tabs open at the same time) is able to almost saturate the 4GB of RAM. If I open a second program, I get paging. Paging to the HDD is not nice.

But hey, if you buy a High-end gaming card, it only makes sense to take advantage of it, right ? Otherwise you would be better off with an HD6950 1GB, which even lets you use more system RAM in Windows XP. And with the money saved you could buy Windows 7...

When I upgrade to 7, I definitely plan to get the 64bit (come on man! I'll be using the 6970 Lightning). Gotta take advantage of that power.

I'll have 7 in a few months. Work is soooo busy right now & I have zero time to play games at the moment. After I'm done with my current project, then I'll upgrade to 7. Besides, I gotta have 7 cuz I'm building an Eyefinity setup this fall & I plan to buy a 2nd 6970 Lightning What you see in my sig, I still have to build. The incoming hardware is arriving Thursday. The only thing left is to buy 7. If I buy 7 within a month, I'll make sure I tell you and you can tell me, "I told you so."

I know...I know...not for long
Plus XP doesn't properly use more than 2 cores, so your i5 is wasting away right now as well. Not to mention your RAM.

Ok! Glad you reasoned that you really can't wait until Windows 8

Good work, and of course, when that is done, hope you enjoy the gaming on the Radeons!
