Wanting higher fps: Lower resolution or AA?

Thread Starter
I was trying out cod black ops, and I was averaging 55-64fps depending on the level. I'm playing at 1920x1080 with 4xAA. If I wanted to increase the framerate and keep the best graphics possible would it be better to keep or increase AA but lower resolution OR keep the resolution but turn off AA?

I know the average frames is fine, but there are parts with a lot of action where there is noticeable slow down.

AA is basically artificial resolution to smooth out the edges. IMO always run games at your monitors native res, and use AA accordingly.

What booty warrior (lol) said. Disabling or turning down AA will have a more drastic affect on framerates, and is more of an eye-candy effect. In fact, res is the LAST thing I turn down to save frames.

Lower you AA and try updating your drivers, your fps doesn't seem to be matching you gpu since my 5770 which is much weaker can run 8x AA at 50-60 fps.

Could it be because you have an i7 and I'm running a phenom =(. From what I've seen and read similar systems always run faster with the intel chip.

I hadn't checked your sig specs, but he is right. A 560 clocked that high should absolutely annihilate CoD.

If it's a cpu bottleneck, lowering the AA won't help.

If its oced to 3.7ghz... it should not be a problem.

Run with the latest drivers.

Turn down AA. Don't bother with resolution on BlackOps.

BlackOps is so weird. My Q6700 @ 3.7Ghz and 560 @ 1Ghz gets like 120fps average. Detail extra, 18AF, 10MSAA+8SSAA, 1920x1080.

Turn down AA or make it 2xCQAA from nvidia control panel instead of MSAA in-game. That should make things much better FPS wise.
