AMD Athlon X2 PC at pawn shop and I want to make an offer. please help - Page 7

I just dealt with a situation like this a couple of weeks ago. Local shop that I frequent, dude took in a decent mini-ITX system in a Thermaltake Kandalf case (talk about overkill!) It was marked $400 and I asked if I could look inside it to see what was in it. Keep in mind, NOTHING was written on the tag except "High end computer" It had 7 HD's in it. 3 were 10 gb IDE, the other 4 were 20gb IDE/SATA Mix. The two SATA 20GB and 2 of the 10Gb IDE were hooked up, the rest only had power cables running to them. The Powersupply was a generic 250W and didn't have Sata connectors (they used molex converters) The MITX board was toasted (VIA C3 I believe w/ blown capacitors all over it) Case was in really decent shape (not scratched on the outside, pretty clean on the inside) I stunk of cigarette smoke, but otherwise not bad. I'll add that there were no fans anywhere in the case. I called the shop owner over and told him that the case was worth about $80 w/ everything inside. I show him everything and point out the technical stuff. He smiled at me and said "but in a couple years I sell as vintage and get $400" I nodded and left.

Doubt you'll talk him down OP, but give it a shot. Expect the popular "if I keep it long enough it will be vintage" excuse.

And onboard gpu capable of 1080p playback would handicap them how?, if they don't intend to do gaming? Phenom II x4 still trumps the Athlon x2 64 when it comes to number crunching. Your mildly graphic intensive application on the onboard would run smoothly.

I agree. This system would be a much better deal
This way you're guaranteed to get better specs, warranties, new parts, and the fun of building the computer yourself

You really shouldn't risk that pawn shop computer

I'd start off at $150. Gauge what the guy says, and go from there. If he's desperate to sell, you should catch it and slowly work your way up.
