I'm hoping that a Maverick D1 would clear my issues (and look awesome while doing it)
Unfortunately I can say there is also hum with the D1 using USB. This is with the tube out, can't remember if the SS out did it too. However, it is only audible at full volume with my head next to the speaker; it wasn't close to enough for me to change to SS - I liked the tube sound better. In any case, it doesn not detract from my music listening a bit.

This is one of the best bang for buck items out there imo.

Hmm, may have passed my radar too

IMO, he wasn't being sarcastic, but that's because I spent all night researching external DACs.

The Tube Magic D1 has a decent amp that surpasses the one on the STX, but the STX has a better DAC than the Tube Magic. For cheaper, you could have gotten a better DAC.

Still, I hope you enjoy your Ext. DAC.

Nice review, I have been interested in this dac also. Can you do some different source comparisons (ie optical, coax, usb)? Also I would like to know if the line in can be used as a suitable mic input. Thanks in advance.

Ah but the op-amps are easily swapped

Made a surprising difference for me.

Despite the best opamps you can get for the ST, the LMEblahblahblahs they're still not as good as the Tube Magic's amp.

The LME------- opamp increases bass mostly as well as easing out the harshness of the STX's treble, but overall, much better in terms of an external DAC can be had for the price.
