How badly does my cpu bottleneck my gpu? - Page 17

Sounds like a board/bios issue more so than a cpu issue.

I have no problems with Asus and their UEFI bios, no dual boots or anything like that. Though I did have some issues with my UD4 with boot cycling past 5Ghz.

Only problem for me was the UEFI bios suck ass. Constantly getting dual boot, sometimes doesnt even boot to Windows. When enabled memory XMP, system would not boot. When manually set RAM frequency, it would dual boot then froze at POST. Basically lots of problems and lots of hassle with the new UEFI BIOS.
There are always bugs with anything new.

i started a thread about this i just got a 2nd 6870 and crysis 1,,,warhead and 2 bottleneck my cards anywere from 50% usage to 95% usage huge fps spikes down to 25fps in certain spots but rare,,,a 4.2ghz oc didnt help at all pushing my nb to 2600 helped a little and 1333 cas9 sucked compared to 1600 cas9 on crysis

now on metro 2033 i get no bottleneck i get 99% usage on both cards most of the time no matter wat ram speed nb cpu multiplier it dosent matter

ya i kno my psu sucks but it isnt the problem lol dont worry im upgraden soon

you guys think bulldozer will slove these problems

I cannot say for certain that it will. I'm a perfectionist. My current system was thrown together to hold off for the time being. Newer monitor tech, Zambezi/Ivy Bridge, 7xxx GPUs, SATA 3, PCI-e 3.0, USB 3.0, SSDs and newer optical drives are what I'm waiting for. Once all those are out n' about I can start to choose things. As for now I'll continue using my overclocked GPU till then. Don't drive yourself into the nuthouse trying to figure it all out now. Get familiar with the tech, but anything beyond that is overkill.

The problem with Crysis and Crysis Warhead is that they don't use more than 2 cores properly, whereas Metro 2033 does. That means your CPU is not bottlenecking Metro 2033, because it distributes the load between all 4 cores better.

If you try Crysis 2 you will see similar performance benefits as with Metro 2033.

In high action scenes in Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead I have the exact same problem as you, and Metro 2033 was one of the reasons I sold my E8400 and bought a Q9550.

Bulldozer already has Turbo Core (version 2.0 in fact) which will increase the frequency of, say, 2 cores when those are more needed, just like Intel already does, which, coupled with the expected performance increases of the new architecture, will mostly or completely solve the problem with older games that benefit more from fast Dual Cores than slower 4/6/8 core CPU's.
