And your still saving money... I can't really see any reason for anyone like the members here, who know what they are doing, to get an actual 6970, unless they are afraid of the 1% to 3% chance of not unlocking... (Ref obviously... and 2GB Ref, don't forget its the 2GB Ref model only that unlocks)
Yeah, no. It is much easier to obtain higher stable overclocks on the 6970 as it is to obtain it on an unlocked 6950 if you are water cooling then yes the 6950 will do it. Besides I have heard horror stories of the 6950's unlocked to a 6970 and overclocked beyond the hardware's means and virtually melting.

Other reason why I bought the 6970? Is because I am better than you

Just kidding

ajmidd12 you are kinda right though.

If someone would be willing to pay for a Twin Frozr III 6950 ... a 6970 would be the better buy.

There are no studies about the long term affects of unlocking the 6950 yet and according to AMD mailfunction or card failure are bound to occur.
Also AMD has made it clear to I quote "stop the unlocking process at once".
It is yet unclear if they are only going to prevent newer branches of the 6950 from being unlocked by laser cutting them ...or all 6950´s included already purchased and own ones as well.
That would mean they will release software which prohibits owners of a Cayman Pro chip with 1536 Shader units or 6970 Bios to operate 3D applications.

At this point it is still unclear what will happen but be sure that AMD will interfere with the unlocking buisness.

Considering that the purchase of a 6970 isn´t as dumb as persumed 2 months ago^^.

It is still cheaper than a 570 and can be overclocked just as well if not better than a Twin Frozr III 6950 I believe
