From laptop to mechanical

Thread Starter
How big of a difference should i expect going from a laptop keyboard (flat, toshiba satellite) to a mechanical keyboard in terms of tying speed and overall feel?

Right now I type approximately 60 WPM using a dvorak layout on my laptop. I plan on getting a Das Ultimate S silent with the rest of my build. When i switched from QWERTY, i got rid of a lot of bad typing habits (i type with all fingers now )so I can touch type pretty well - so the blank keys wont be a factor.

A good rule of thumb is to multiply by 4.

To be honest I didn't notice a change in either. I just noticed it felt amazing compared to what I had before.

Let's put it this way, I can type as quickly on one of those Apple Aluminium chiclet keyboards as I can on a Model M or blue Cherry keyboard (>100WPM)

Overall feel, yes. You will feel better since your finger can use less force.

Speed, no. Tiny 5pm gain is what you can expect.
