And hardly many games use PhysX which look better with it enabled (Only a handful) and it's not worth it for the trade-offs (higher price or lower performance in general for example).
Funny thing, is that I heard it is normal for high end cards to have coil whine...

Long story short, I sent in my original 5870 because of coil whine and some other problems. Sent that in, and got it replaced with another 5870. That too had coil whine. And that got replaced with a 6950 after all my complaining. Even replaced my PSU, and still have coil whine...

MUST be my motherboard.

I have had 4 x 5870 and none had coil whine, sure its not just your psu? or mobo for that fact?
My 480 gets no coil whine either, only an 8800GTX that i had has ever had coil whine.

Straight up trade? ( is it a swap with a buddy or returning the ATi and buying a 570? ) What model 570?

A 570 with a good OC is a better card.

You would find a lot of people willing to do that trade because they want to get rid of their 570 before it blows up..

Even if you OC'd your 6950 to stock 6970 levels, a stock 570 would be as good and sometimes better at 1680x1050. Even a mild OC would put it well beyond 6950 reach. I cant see how you'd lose there for a straight swap.

You wont blow up a stock 570. It would be best to find a 570 with upgraded power delivery system (non reference?).
