Minor 2600k overclocking question

First off..
Hello OCN, first post here
I've followed Sin's guide almost down to the button, but I am having issues getting my multi past 44. All my settings are on auto with C1E, EIST, C3, C6 States and CPU Thermal Monitor all disabled. Last time I enabled the internal CPU PLL it boot looped my PC clearing cmos/removing battery was infective. Had to leave it for min 15 min then put the battery back in and try again.

Could anyone help shed some light on this for me?
This is my first rig, and first time OC'ing as well.

Thanks in advance!

Using the gigabyte GA-P67A-UD5-B3 board with a 2600k processor.

Using the gigabyte GA-P67A-UD5-B3 board with a 2600k processor.
On the UD3, you clear the cmos by using a screwdriver to short the two cmos jumper pins. You can also use a jumper from a spare HDD, if it fits. Just removing the battery won't work ; you have to keep it removed for a long time. Shorting the jumper always works.

You also have to remove the +5 vdc from the board by removing the power cable from the PSU or turning off the PSU rocker switch, or the CMOS won't clear.

Yes, the CMOS restore button will do the same thing if the motherboard has one.

I'm currently letting it sit after it started bootlooping again. Clear CMOS button did nothing.

Couple questions. I think I started my oc from "fail safe defaults" as opposed to "optimized"
Or... Do I have a d1 chip that cannot have PLL enabled?

Betty,
Did you remove the power cord or turn off the power supply before clearing the CMOS?

If you don't, then power to the board isn't fully cut and there is still +5 VSB going through it.

I had infinite boot loops once by setting the power /turbo limits to 35W (silly me), and the CPU kept freezing at the "CPUID" string showing 3.4 ghz, and it couldn't even report overclock failed since it kept freezing there and restarting after 20 seconds, and clear CMOS fixed that up instantly. (Yes I have a UD5 and the onboard button!)

That button has always worked
Sorry, I misread the board on the first post; i'm sleepy

Cleared CMOS with PC unplugged.
Also taking the battery out for a couple min, with the cord unplugged did nothing :s
After watching some PVR'ed TV I came back and it booted just fine, after i turned off PLL
