Minor 2600k overclocking question - Page 3

I always adjust vcore manually because I'm paranoid of auto voltages.
I have it set manually to 1.25v BIOS, LLC disabled for 3.4 ghz and 4 ghz

BIOS 1.270v for 4.5 ghz LLC1. (load 1.238v)
BIOS 1.450 to 1.455v for 5 ghz LLC1 (load 1.416-1.428v)

However, as long as you have a good CPU, you can let the increasing VID per multiplier do the work, and just keep auto voltages all the way to 4.5 ghz. But at 4.5 ghz, you may have to enable LLC1. The majority ( a lot more than 50%) of the CPU's are stable at 4.5 ghz, with auto vcore and LLC1. Some can even do 4.5 ghz with LLC standard (disabled/auto) and auto vcore. This does depend on the CPU and the VID at 4.5 ghz, though.

I'll try that again, if I recall correctly I could not get past x44, with my temps going up 15c

Some bad cpus need PLL Overvoltage enabled for X45 and higher multipliers.

What happens if you use the following settings?
Vcore: 1.350v
PLL Overvoltage: disabled
Loadline calibration: level 1
multiplier: x45
Multiplier control by OS: disabled
Turbo: disabled (forgot the exact field name?)

Can you boot into windows?

I reboot out of bios. Post shows multi at x34 then my boards "auto restores" after 2 boots and gives me an error about a failed OC.

Thank you for that result. That means your CPU has a multiplier wall at X44. That's about the worst possible CPU. I think some other poor chap had a CPU that needed PLL override enabled for X44, sadly, but only one story.

So you need PLL override enabled just to use X45. This also means that X49 should be your absolute maximum multiplier, with X50 completely out of the question (PC might enter POST but you will get a hard lock or a blinking cursor trying to load windows). and X49 might not even work for you.

Probably best to exchange that CPU...its virtually impossible to get anything worse than you already have.

Did you update to F3G? F3G should allow you to use X45 multiplier with PLL override enabled, without the boot loop problem.

Do the following to update the bios:
Use FlashSPI and put the BIOS file and flashSPI on a bootable USB flash drive. You can make a flash drive bootable with the HP format tool. And you can download a windows 98 DOS boot disk somewhere (don't remember where) that has the MS DOS mode startup files on it.

Then set your cpu back to 3400 mhz and set your bios to boot from the flash drive. Go and flash the bios then with flashspi.

After the flash is complete, clear the cmos with these instructions:
Power off the PC
Turn off the power supply switch or unplug.
Wait 60 seconds
Open the case and push the Clear CMOS button for 30 seconds.

This will clear everything and insure a fresh start.

Set your normal settings, what you usually use for your 24/7 settings, then after you're satisfied, BEFORE you try 4.5 ghz, save, and restart the computer, and BEFORE you hear the "beep" and see the cpuid string, hold down ALT and F12. The computer should freeze on the RAM count, then ask you if you want to copy the main bios to the backup bios. Press enter and it will do it. Once done, power off the comp by holding the power button.

Now go back and try your 4.5 ghz settings:
vcore: 1.375v
PLL overvoltage: enabled
X45 multiplier
BCLK: 100.03
Loadline calibration: level 1
DISABLE all power options: C1E, C3, C6, E.I.S.T., but you can keep Thermal monitor or Bi directional prochot enabled if you want.

Save and exit.
The computer should now boot to x45 without boot loops.

Please report back.

If you find yourself stable at 1.375v with PLL override enabled, in prime 95, you can try reducing vcore by 0.015v. If you find yourself BSOD'ing, raise vcore up to 1.40v in the BIOS with LLC1 and try again. Keep going up by 0.015 until you pass prime blend. Do not exceed 1.455v BIOS.

Fantastic post I'll try that once my pc stops bootlooping again. When flashing I don't have flashspi it's called flash8391 (or something like that) will this yield the same result?

Edit: found FLASHSPI, so just FLASHSPI and the bios file, on the root of my bootable flashdrive, then in the dos prompt type:flashspi 7aud53jz.f3g?

I followed this guide.
http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ash-guide.html
The section at the bottom for USB flashing.
Set USB hdd in bios, restarted, bootloop with no post screen.
this makes me think that the CPU may not be the problem?

You boot looped without flashing?
You tried to make the USB device as your primary boot drive?
My boot order is USB HDD-->CDROM->HDD

This only happens with the USB flash drive installed? I'm not really experienced on what to do if the problem is caused by a USB drive....

I tried flashing again after fixing the bootloop. Just set to x44 and will run some tests and report back in a bit.

I was having trouble getting x44 to be stable with prime95 (small fft) Adjusted my vcore up to 1.375.
So I figured I would enable internal CPU PLL and to my surprise it let me boot into x45.
In attempts to get x45 to be at the very least somewhat stable, i've tried adjusting my LLC from auto - which bsods me 0x0..124 (up your vcore) adjusted my LLC to standard, and it did the same thing. Testing LLC level 1 at the moment and will report back. If LLC 1 is still unstable I shall try to up my vcore and see where that takes me.

Thanks again for all the help, I'll update again tonight hopefully.

Update..
Currently using blend on prime all settings on auto, LLC 2, Internal CPU PLL enabled, x47. Bios shows vcore at 1.375 temps appear to climax at 62-65.
