I don't think Windows XP supports TRIM?
But by doing some searching, it seems that there is some SSD manufactures that have added firmware upgrades to support a TRIM function in XP. Not sure how that works though.

i tought some ssd had special apps to invoque trimming, (like intel toolbox) but needed ahci enabled to work

i might as well be wrong tough

Sandforce drives have pretty good garbage collection, I think. The Intel X25-M's also appear to be pretty resilient. I remember reading somewhere that if you're still using XP and don't have AHCI support, the X25-M's are a pretty good bet.

Go with the SandForce based SSDs: Vertex 2, Agility 2, A-Data S559, etc.

I'm currently running an A-Data S559 on an Intel DG41TY board--without AHCI--running XP Pro. No problems at all with degradation.

To invoke the garbage collection, log off and leave your pc idle at the log on screen for some time.

Marvel, Indilinx, and SandForce controllers have idle time garbage collection.

Not sure about Samsung, Toshiba, Phison, or JMicron controllers.... but why would anyone buy those?

thanks for the tips

in my internet crawling i was leaning towards intel g2 ones for they reliability (after reading about the problem of users with multiple ssd dying) of course they are a little more expensive..

as i am away from the US ill be having problem doing rma if anything goes wrong so i'm checking for local support also.

i'm happy with an 60-80gb, its for a desktop, so only o.s. , couple of programs and games i want with faster loading.
