So is this thread telling me that I could go nVidia for the same price, have one less gpu and about the same performance?

You'd have two cards either way.

That's pretty slick that you can run the 6990 and 6970 like that.

Yeah but the 6990 has two gpu's. I just wasn't sure that it really meant that they had a 6990 and a 6970. I don't see the point in this.

it's just a performance review, and [H]'s point is that for $1000 and the same power draw the best performing setup is AMD. not only is it better, the actual game settings are all higher. more AA, features enabled that have to be disabled for the 580 SLI to be even playable, etc.
I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's a $1000 showdown - meaning a comparison between what you can get from AMD's side for $1000, and what you can get from NVIDIA's side for $1000. It has nothing to do with how many cards or GPU's there are on one side - that's totally besides the point.

I don't see how people can miss that.

It's a review about price/performance and number of physical cards used. It has literally nothing to do with the number of GPUs used.

blame nvidea for having expensive cards, because if not for that then maybe it would have been a fair 3vs3 with a 590+580 and 6990+6970!
This on an extreme level

I bought, used and returned a pair of 6970's in crossfire.

Not my first set of crossfire cards but it may be my last for awhile...

Glad to be back to a single gpu card again.

Benches don't mean much in real world gaming.
