Seriously, I'm interested in this, that's a lot of GPU power!

Any benchies on these yet?

And...? What's your point? With the current situation you have one setup with one less GPU entirely....

Or do you finally realize having both would be best?

Wouldn't it be 6970 x4 vs 580 x4 for the fastest setup?

Is 6970 x4 roughly as fast as 6990 x2 when factoring in overclocking?

I was referring to what each company's single fastest card, not GPU so much. For the sake of saving space maybe?

It's not secret that 2 6970's will beat a 6990, or that 2 580's will stomp a 590. Even though in both cases the later card is supposed to be two of the former.

I'll bite i'll bite!!! (Multiply the cards in this example by two).

The 6990 would win due to its ability to overclock more.

If you buy both and run them at stock or with slight OC's, or with the same % of OC (right now an average, safe 590 OC is only 12%), the 6990 wins with a difference of less than 5% (1-3 frames)

Despite the misinformation thrown around because of like, 1 or 2 incidents early on where OCP wasn't active in the drivers, the 590 has gotten a lot of hate...but at its price point of not-quite 580s in SLI but costing $300 less, consuming far less power, producing less heat and being much quieter (compared to the 6990 and 580 fans, the 590 fan is ridiculously quiet) it's a damn good card.

But honestly I wouldn't blame anyone for picking either, or picking neither. I am personally enjoying mine.

Note the article title...

An unbiased review based on the $1000 price-point. You are suggesting they perform a biased review based on number of GPU's and ignore costs... how would that be useful to readers?

$1000 price point = bias of 3 vs 2.

Do it the other way, you have a price bias.

Do it both ways, you show both sides of the argument.

Or is it still too difficult to comprehend?

Cost-utility analysis is always an important decision-making factor. We make those types of decisions all the time. Why are you driving that Ford Mustang or Toyota Camry instead of a Mercedes SLR McLaren? Why not spend all your money on that car and sell your house?

Video cards should not be omitted from cost-utility analysis.

Again, how would this benefit readers?

There is simply no rational reason to compare them in that way. In the current review they fit the same form-factor and the same price-point - you're suggesting a review where they match nothing but a (for all intensive purposes) useless number and discard everything that a consumer should be looking at.

It's definitely a possibility, but it shouldn't be too significant of a hit with 3 cards.

But that does bring up a good point that this whole review seems rather pointless, as roughly less than 5% of the community will buy $1000 worth of graphics cards AND run a triple monitor setup at 5760x1200 res. That's so far out from the norm that it's not even funny.

It's a good showcase I suppose for further supporting the fact that AMD is the price-performance king, but honestly, with this kind of review, you begin to question the practicality of such a test setup when I am no cheapie and even i am going, "$1000+ in GPUs AND 3 monitors?" And the point of this article was to headline a bang-for-buck setup that would put off imo 95% of the pc gaming crowd?
