New Build - i5 2500k, 6950x2 crossfire - Page 2

That's not skimping the cpu cooler, it's one of the best coolers for the value. I get a 100dollar water cooler and get what, 5 degres? I can live with it.

I def wouldnt skimp on the CPU cooler, go down a lil bit on the RAM (1600) and use the money towards a Noctua NH-D14 (I think its like 80 bucks on Newegg) or another high end air cooler.
and +1 for the HAF 922

Honestly for that price budget I'd go for the Cooler Master 690 II Advanced.

Quite beautiful case and very good airflow, imo better than the HAF 922, which has a "unpainted" interior.

I'd go for the CM 690 II Advanced

What's so wrong with 2133mghz ram? :3
Hey,
Ram kit is OP like others said.
If you're building this build during summer, I suggest getting a Bulldozer since I've seen rumors stating the launch date is june 20th.
Link: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/30...h-date-finally
Also, for the gpus, you should buy them really soon if you plan on unlocking them because the second batch (the one without the dual bios switch) is comming out soon, so no unlocking...
+ HAF 922 is a really nice case, I love mine, cable management is easy and airflow is amazing.
+ Get an aftermarket cpu cooler if u wanna overclock, it's a must, I love my frio, temps are very good... NH-D14 is your best bet

It's just putting extra money where it isn't really needed. 1600/1333 is where everyone usually goes to, because anything more than that is just pointless. So more or less, the performance increase is not worth the money increase, because the performance increase isn't really even noticeable.

Agreed....only reason you would even consider it is if ur doin like massive amounts of rediculous photo/video editing at the same time.....or bragging rights lol.

I have to agree with getting a better CPU cooler. I k ow the Hyper 212 is one of the best budget CPU coolers but alot of your other parts are not really budget. The others suggested are great coolers. H50-H70 are good ones also. Used to have an H50 and I loved it.
I sorta disagree about the RAM though. I was able to get higher stable OC with both my rigs with higher RAM. Both started at 1333Mhz kit. 2133Mhz is a lot but it gives you a chance to downclock and play with timings also. Could have been just better quality kits also. Never know! That's my cents, hope they help!

I agree with you on the RAM. I was thinking of getting some 2133 for bulldozer when I buy it. When overclocking, it is really nice to have that extra headroom on your RAM. You will probably be ok with 1866 but if there is only a $20-$30 difference I would just get the 2133.
This is the Case I would buy right now if you gave me £100

Also, as previously said, make sure you buy a 6950 with the BIOS switch before they phase them out. Getting 6970 performance at 6950 cost's is epic

RAM doesn't need to be that high spec, I'd settle for 1600MHz, I think there are a few reports around showing minimal increase in performance in different benchmarks. Of course, I assume it would come more into play if you are looking at overclocking like mad
