Vega's SLI Scaling Thread - Page 3

sick GPU speeds man, especially for quad SLI. Some LN2 benchers don't get much more than that on their 4-way setups

That is a bit odd.

I'm getting over 100fps on my setup with just 1.5GB of memory.
Are you using customized settings or just the max in-game?

And yeah, I know you are higher res than me (), but the game is still DX9 and with 270.51 the SLI works quite well.

But maybe its the portrait mode. The beta drivers are really bad in that regard. They are pretty buggy in that mode.

Just the max in game. I have not played around with the custom configs yet. I was going to wait until the DX11 patch comes out before trying to play through the single player campaign.

But ya, portait mode is pretty strange in that it is very quirky. I have a feeling nVidia does not do routine testing in portrait mode as I find tons of bugs.

Well, I finished up the CPU speed difference benchmarking. I was going to make a bar graph but it would not be very interesting. I tested all of the same benchmarks but this time with the 990x @ 4.0 Ghz and it @ 5.2 Ghz. 4.83Ghz being the baseline.

On average, dropping down to 4.0Ghz lowered FPS by 10-12%. Increasing the CPU to 5.2Ghz had a minimal impact, averaging a 1-2% gain. One game, F1 2010, didn't care what the CPU was set at and pulled the same numbers.

Considering I can run 4.83 Ghz full IBT stable at a relatively comfortable 1.45vcore, I think it would be pretty insane to increase vcore to 1.56 just to get a 1-2% FPS increase. 4.83 Ghz (210Mhz bclock) 990x @ 1.45vcore and 1020Mhz core GTX580s @ 1.15v seem to be a pretty balanced 24/7 high performance setup.

it's funny how a demanding game like crysis only scale 59%.
just reviewed the pictures. it's crysis 2. explains a lot. you should bench crysis instead.
although FYI, quad sli is 103% faster than dual sli in metro 2033.
you should put 103% so you'll also bust the myth "sli never scale past 100%" and such.

also with fps over 100, you should turn on some SSAA

AMD needs to send you two 6990s(so you can use the dual bridge connectors) to test out. I'd love to see the comparison.

This just shows how badly we need Kepler and Southern Islands. You're before your time Vega!

I just made it 100% because there is a small percentage of fluctuations in the FPS numbers even while sitting still in the game.

Two 6990's would be interesting to test, but like I said almost all of the games I play use over 2GB VRAM so the 69xx series would be getting crippled as it ran out of VRAM. In my particular case, it looks like the tables have turned! It is usually AMD that is winning the VRAM quantity accolades.

Wonder if 8x8x8x8 and a 2600K @ 5Ghz would bottleneck it at all.
