GTX 460 or HD 5850?

Thread Starter
I have up to £160 GBP to get a new GPU with. I've narrowed it down to either a 5850 or 1GB 460. I would want to play DiRT 2, and GTA IV at at least medium settings at 1920 x 1080, and this would be on my sigrig (but with a new monitor, probably an LG W2361V). I am aware that my CPU will be a bottleneck, but i will swap this for a 965 at some point during 2011. I do not want to SLI or CF. I don't want to change the PSU when I upgrade both the CPU and GPU.

What would you recommend?

5850 is definitely a better card than the GTX460.

5850 is faster, for lower power consumption.

I'm biased, I like Nvidias features.

GTX 460 ftw !
But the 5850 does perform a tad better ..

OK, I can't link to the card I want but its XFX, 5850, 1GB, and I think its reference. It has a stock looking cooler, and is on Scan for 145 GBP. Will it be suitable?

Sorry for typos, posting from my phone.

5850 is definitely faster, it also has better power consumption and I think it runs cooler.

I agree with most of the replies. 5850 is the way to go.

the 5850 is a little faster than the 460, but not by a lot.
However, I'd look at finding an extra 20 quid and going to Novatech and getting a 470, which beats both those cards, yes, you get the world renowned fermi room heater, but the speed is worth it.
