Get this one. Sapphire 5850 for only £98.

However, I'd look at finding an extra 20 quid and going to Novatech and getting a 470, which beats both those cards, yes, you get the world renowned fermi room heater, but the speed is worth it.
A 5850 for £98 is a much better deal and they perform pretty closely anyway. If he does want a 470, he should get this as its much better than the Novatech one and cheaper. But £75 extra for a bit more performance isn't worth it.

Make sure its the reference 5850 or else its no good. For single card solution a 5850 definately however if going dual card 460 sli is slightly better for dx11. I also dont understand why you wont be going dual cards in the future, since its the mist cost effective option

I have my doubts that scan will actually have any reference models left, even if the picture shows a reference design. I would contact them to make sure first. Even then the reference model really isnt worth £40 more than non ref imo.

Rubbish. Some reference cards are terrible at overclocking and are no better and sometimes actually worse than non reference. There is a misconception that 'ALL' reference cards overclock massively.

You're good with either one. The 460 has PhysX, the 5850 is faster.
