After the GPU and the monitor, it will be. Any birthday funds are going towards a TX650W I think.

I am not saying the 260 is faster than the 460. That test is obviously flawed, sorry I didn't look at the charts before posting

If you get the 5850 make sure you don't get an HDMI monitor, since HDMI is broken in Catalyst and you're going to have to mess with it just to get it to work.

If you want to know exactly how much your PC is pulling under load, try getting something like one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PLUG-ENERGY-SA...#ht_1279wt_905

They are cheap and well worth it if you are worried about how much power your PC is using up to run your gear

Hope this helps!

You don't have to go overkill with the PSU (like I have done), but just look for a good 600-650W unit.
Not sure how yours draws so much...

Mine peaks at around 350W at the plug (so actual used will be something like 80% of this), and that's running FurMark. Running something like IBT as well pushed it up to nearer 400W, but again that's at the socket. And this was with my 920 at 4.2GHz.

I think he'll be fine with an overclocked X4 and a 5870.. I think most people go overkill on their PSUs, generally there is more headroom than people think. Obviously this isn't true of bad quality PSUs, but I don't think BeQuiet PSUs are especially bad.. in any case, I think he'll be fine running what he's planning to

Don't know if this has been posted already, but if you go with XFX, make sure it's a reference model. My ref 5850 runs great!

Agreed on this one; I used to just look at the online PSU calcs and then add headroom just in case, but really the online PSU calcs are waaaaay too ott when it comes to giving you a recommended wattage.

My system, with CF 5850s generally pulls under 500w..

Power draw for the system with 5870 according to a power calculator is recommended to be 463w with my current dual core.

When I upgrade to the 965 (based on worst case scenario of 140w) that changes to 532w. Too much for my PSU methinks.

My real worry is the power draw. I don't intend on a PSU upgrade any time soon.
Honestly I don't think you'd have problems. I don't know your PSU, but I'm running an OC'd 2500k and an OC'd HD 5850 on a 550W. No problems. Yet

Also, see Scorpii's post. PSU calculators are crap anyway.

The monitor would be used via DVI, HDMI on that monitor is being saved for a HD freeview box or my dv6 I think.
