I didn't read the article put the picture says it will work with "select 6 series chipsets".

Not sure where everyone is getting that they all work together.

Yes, but they wont be on 1155. SandyBridge-E will have 6-8 core cpus including the new IvyBridge versions.

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that intel said no 6 - 8 core cpus will ever be on the 1155 socket because it is mainstream and not enthusiast like 2011 will be.

But hey, that could change

So... intel graphics let me have three displays, and a built in USB controller gives me what AIBs have already been providing for well over a year? Yeah, I won't be saving my nickels and dimes for this chipset.

The archeticture is the same its just a die shrink, there just isn't room for more than 4 cores on 1155.
An 8-core 22nm IB should take up (roughly) the same amount of die space as a 4-core 45nm Lynnfield, so I don't see why it's 'impossible.' Even with the IGP, 6 cores would fit just fine.

Whether or not Intel goes forward with it, we shall see.

LOL ! Did you read the note at bottom of the picture ?

It say that ivy-bridge won't work on Q65, Q67 and B65. In other words, those are the only 6 series chipsets that won't work with ivy bridge

Mobo and hard drive prices will actually be going up later this year as supplies shorten due to the Japanese Earthquake.
But yeah, who didn't already know Ivy was drop-in compatible? Ivy-E 2011 socket won't be around til Q4 2012 so SB-E 2011 is a good upgrade point.

Ivy bridge comes *after* socket 2011, right??

Does that mean there will be a 22nm die shrink for socket 2011 as well? Just wondering if I'm waiting 8 months or 18 months for a system refresh.

EDIT:

Hey, thanks! Wait - damn, I have to wait that long!!!! so I might as well get a new 1366 mobo till then? Or should I get a 2011 mobo and just upgrade CPUs a year later? SO many choices!

SB-E would be good, but I wouldn't want a 1155 setup and have to convert over to 2011 when it's out.

This first gen x58 is killing me.
