In few words, I'm glad I bought a i7 1155 MB as soon as they were restocked from the recall, so Ill have an "up to date" board till 3 years from now!

Intel had to do a move like this, since AMD made possible for BD to be used in existing AM3 boards

Huh? Can Intel do anything about it?
Well its an EngineeringSample, that is why it is downclocked to 1.6ghz.

The funny thing is that it is a 22nm IB socket 2011 (maybe they are skipping the whole 32nm socket 2011)??. This is a clue that Intel is working hard on the socket 2011.

My guess is the 1155 Ivy Bridge will be a useful upgrade for those using the IGP, think about it.

Intel's real major upgrade since westemere will be these 22nm hexa/octo core cpus we will be seeing next year and they ain't coming to 1155. In 12 months socket 1155 will be dead to extreme entusiasts, all IB brings to this socket is a faster igpu (woopie) and better efficiency, maybe good for laptops?

But PC enthusiasts will fully be on socket 2011, the socket 2011 motherboards due at the end of this year are the upgrade to X58 that smart enthusiasts should be waiting for.
