How is an extra strand of DNA different than an entire extra chromosome?

1 extra strand means more unnecessary genes that could basically f up everything for that unlucky person.

Where did you get that idea? My previous comment said this was not evolution, as did this one. I never agreed it was evolution.

Evolution is the change in an entire species or a sub-population of that species over a long period of time. Like multiple generations length of time.

The only thing that can be seen at the individual level is variation. This child has a genetic defect. It is a genetic oddity, and very unhealthy at that. This has nothing to do with adaptation for survival. This is an unfortunate molecular mistake.

Under your definition of evolution I guess every chromosome breakage, rearrangement, and recombination event that results in cancer is "evolution"... It's also drastic manipulation of the genome.

I don't really know how brave the kid is... He is kind of forced to undergo all the surgeries and such because of his parents... To say he is brave for doing these surgeries isn't really fair, especially considering that the child does not know any different, and to the child, this is all "normal".

I wonder when this anomaly appeared, or rather which phase of meiosis, and when, during meiosis of the parental gametes, or during embryogenesis...conjecture?

No...normally a chromosome is shaped sort of like an "X", or in the case of the male sex chromosome, like a "Y"...an extra strand of DNA would look like a star. Very interesting...
