6850 or 6870

Hey guys
Looking at getting a 6850 but then I have found a 6870 for $35 more, is it really worth it or do you think that a small oc will bring the 6850 up with the 6870 anyway, just looking for opinions.
Thanks guys

From a pure performance/$ perspective the 6850 is better. However the 6870 is quite a bit faster than the 6850 (check out the BENCH section at anandtech.com) so if you need the performance the 6870 is a faster option for some 10-15% more $$$. Overclocking the 6850 brings it faster than a stock 6870, but you can also OC the 6870. It just boils down weather you need the extra performance of the 6870...

I know 6870s have been popping up on ebay for $170.00, so it's a really good deal if you can get it for around that price.

The 6850 is a good bit more powerful than a 460.

The 6870 is, roughly, on par with the 470. I hate admitting to this because I love Nvidia... XD But I love ATI too so yeah.

Totally worth the extra $35.

Ive seen the 6950 beat the 6970 on benchmarks by less than 1%. Idk why though...

The 6850 has much better value for the money, and can be oc'd to practically the same levels as the 6870. At the same clock speeds, I think the 6870 performs 5% better, maybe less. So if that 5% is worth $50, then go for the 6870. Otherwise, get a kick ass 6850 and be happy.

6870 won't perform any better than an overclocked 6850 on 1080p, they both have the same memory bus width and on board memory size.
