This is what we are going to do . Im going to go ahead and order 2 more 6970s .
that way i can have my xfire, and the wife can get rid of the gtx 260 and run a 6970 as well. I will probably order a 120 gig ssd, and let the wife have my two 30gb ssd's. And purchase me another samsung monitor like the one i have now. this sounds pretty balanced for right now right? and when "bulldizzle" lol comes out upgrade from there ?(if bulldozer performs well). IF it performs well, i will buy a 6990. i just hate to have all this power in cards, and have a paper weight cpu.

So totally wrong. 3X6970 wouldn't ''smoke'' 6990+6970.

Why? Because now we know that a watercool 6990 can OC HIGHER and BETTER then 2X 6970 (even watercool). So you are TOTALLY wrong here. It's not a waste of money, since you can OC it HIGHER then 2X 6970.

It was true with the 5970 compared to the 5870, but not with the 6990 and 6970. Low-leakage cheery picked chips for the 6990... Don't forget that.

I know, I have both a 6970 and a 6990, both watercooled. And my 6990 OC alot better and higher then my 6970. Do you have any of those cards? Or are you only copy and pasting what you have read somewhere else about the subject?

Everything else? Meh.

Want to save money? Buy AMD. Want the best, highest quality, most stable gaming experience money can buy? Buy Nvidia.
Wrong on so many level, I don't even know what to say.

That's the usual Nvidia propaganda we can read in the Nvidia forum. But you are in the AMD forum, and we all know it's not true. AMD sold millions of 5xxx and 6xxx cards. And they are working fine.

But let's talk more about Nvidia's ''quality'' products and drivers. The Nvidia 590 is the perfect exemple of a cost-cutting, inferior product, that you can't even OC. Beta drivers for the 590 were causing black smoke to come out of the card if you tried OCing it! They send those POS drivers to reviewers!!!!!

Then they came out with new drivers hard-locking the voltage on those!!!! and OCP at the DRIVER's LEVEL! That's unbelievable! and really really bad for enthusiasts like us. AMD are not doing this. And this is bad drivers design from Nvidia right there. Nvidia OCP is even limiting the 590 in games! My god! And those are better ''quality'' drivers''? How can enthusiasts accept those drivers for their 700$ cards???? Limiting the voltage and limiting the performance even in games!

For 700$, you can get that, or a 6990 that can reach 1100/1375 on water. And with a BIOS switch to use a BIOS WITHOUT any OCP, PowerTune limits, or any other limiting hardware or software! That's a quality design, and a genious idea for enthusiast.

You can't even OC the 590 on water. So, I think we know now who made the better ''quality'' product between those 2. OCP (even in games!) and hard-lock voltages on the 590, or a BIOS without any limits, OCP or Powertune with the 6990.

So. Still thinking that Nvidia products are of higher ''quality'' and with better drivers? With low-cost badly designed VRMs on the 590? A 700$ card you can't even OC, while the competitor card, worth the same price, can be OCed better then 2 separated equivalent chips? Can you OC a 590 to 2X580 OC level? No, and far from it. Can you OC a 6990 to 2X6970 OC level? Yes. And you can even OC it MORE! And the drivers won't limit you with OCP in games like the drivers for the 590!

The 6990 on water can reach 1075-1100/1375 and alone, with those clocks, go head-to-head with 580 SLI OC! So please.

You are stuck in the past. We are not talking about the 4xxx or 5xxx serie anymore.

And another myth to bust. AMD 6xxx scaling in multi-GPUs set-up is BETTER then Nvidia's multi-GPUs scaling. BETTER.

And 11.4 drivers are perfectly fine.

''Yes yes.. but but... AMD drivers are so much FAIL! I had 1 AMD card 5 years ago and I got 1 BSOD while installing drivers, so the millions AMD cards out there are all the same! I know, I had one!!!! So it's a FACT!!!!''

yeah yeah. Watever.

ive seen some benches where the 6970 xfire beat 6990 and some where 6990 beat the 6970 xfire. im thinking the 6990 will be a nastier beast with driver improvements.

Yep. lol, waiting for the bulldozer, or going to find something else .

EDIT: would a 1090t hold me over till then, with better results with the 6970 xfire?

I'd rather buy fireworks, a lot cheaper.. They really failed on the 570(some) and 590's.

Can't beat AMD's value this round.. always been a blind fan of nvidia.
Either 6990 or 6970 - what ever your wallet and resolution dictates..

But I'll go for 6990

That was with preliminary benchmarks 4 weeks ago, when there was not a single waterblock for the 6990 on the market. And often with old drivers 11.2, that were not even officially supporting the 6990.

11.4 preview drivers (still in beta) are the first drivers to support the 6990. So with real non-beta drivers, and in the months to come, the 6990 will become a beast!

And that's why people are not up-to-date with the 6990 latest performance on water.

On water, we now know that you can OC the 6990 cores MORE then 2X 6970, even if those 2 6970 are on water also. But with the new ver 1.1 of the 6970, the memory can get higher then the 6990 memory.

I know alot of people are surprised about this, but since AMD were cherry-picking low-leakage chips, it's logical that those cores can go higher on the 6990. It's not the 5970 vs 5870 anymore.

Proof? I have both, and I can OC my 6990 much higher then my 6970. I flashed my 3 BIOS with RBE with max voltage for all cores, and pushed both my 6990 and 6970 to the limit. Not copy and pasting with I have read somewhere else.

The 6990 is quite the accomplishment if you think about that. It's REALLY 2X6970 on 1 card. And you can OC both cores on the 6990 HIGHER then 2X6970. Impressive.

Not like the Nvidia 590 with highly down-clocked 580 chips.

No I would go intel or bulldozer for tri fire. 1090T makes very little difference in gaming apart from benchmarks, as all cores not fully utilised. However is is a nice overclocker.

Scaling with 2 cards is much better than 3 so I say just normal xfire and oc that cpu as best you can. Half the time there will be no difference between tri and dual setup as games not optimised for it/drivers
EDIT** You will also need a better PSU for tri fire. 1000+w
