New gpu reccomendation needed - Page 2

If I was buying now, I'd give serious consideration to getting two of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130557

Then you flash them with a 470 bios to unlock them to full GTX470's (many have reported these cards successfully unlocking here on OCN) and you will be destroying a 580 for only $360 after MIR. And the headroom for overclocking (and the scaling you get when you do) on 470's is out of this world.

If they aren't the unlockable ones, just send 'em back.

SLI 460's are nice, but personally I think at 1080p resolution or above the 1GB memory is a bit lacking.

It may be fine for most games *today*, but the fact that there are some of them out presently that can exceed that limit when maxed at 1080p (Call of Pripyat and Metro being two that I know of, and there's a bunch more that will go over that if you start using mods), personally I think 1GB cards aren't very future-proof at this point.

Now, a couple of 2GB 460's or 560's ... now THAT is also a very nice setup.

Lastly, I proffer you this as evidence of what SLI'd 465's flashed to 470's can do if you're lucky enough to get good overclockers (all of them OC decently though ):

Though it's not a guarantee by any means, there's been enough people (think I've seen 3 on OCN, plus there's reviewers on the Egg) that have reported getting a evga 465 SC version that is unlockable that I consider the chances to be pretty decent at this point in time.

Nice, didn't know that, I was under the (uninformed) impression that the only ones worth trying with were the MSI golden ones.

And now Brettjv I will flame you like that guy in the micro-stuttering thread!

My question is: what combination of gpus would give me the framerate compared to my sli GTS 450? my budget is slightly flexible. I'm willing to consider both single card and dual gpu set ups.

Thanks for any help...
get 2x gtx560ti sli,

What are my prospects with an ati gpu and an existing 450 for physx and cuda?

On a single monitor you would be better off having the 450 folding and a 580 doing videoa and physx itself

Ok, now I'm torn between the 580 or two 560s. Anyone have anything say about this? What is better? That being said, I am leaning more towards the 580 because it is a single card. Ya know, better airflow, room for another 580 later on...

EDIT: Kinda off topic, is my 750w good enough to run two 580s? It is a really good psu that's rated at 80+

In the 580 vs SLI 560s, raw performance goes to the 560s, but the 580 does higher resolutions better along with having an upgrade path and never having to worry about an SLI profile. Personally, I'd go with the 580.

750w would be plenty for 1 580 or SLI 560s, but it might be a bit low for SLI 580s. Definitely wouldn't be able to OC almost anything on a 750w though.

Thats a pretty good PSU - see if you can get Phaedrus2129 to chime in but I'm pretty sure the best 750's can handle 2 580s.
