[SOLVED] Low PPD 2600K

Thread Starter
Well here's my situation. I was getting fairly high frame times on my 2600K running bigadvs, so I decided to downclock it to 3.9ghz the same as my 950 so I could compare. Both machines running 6900 wu's. The 950 was at 32.34 and the 2600K was at 34.44 (?!).

What could be going on?

Specs: 2600K, P8P67, 4GB Corsair XMS ddr3-1600 c9, crap vid card geforce 6200 turbocache from old work computer

i7-950, Sabertooth, 6GB Corsair Dominator ddr3-1600 c8, gtx460 (not folding)

Any ideas?

At 34.44, you should be getting a PPD of about 30K; at 4ghz that may be a little low. However, these chips really thrive when overclocked. My chip was getting 50k when at 5ghz, and then dropped to 42k when at 4.5ghz. You seemed to be on track in this thread, http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...ridge-cpu.html, has anything changed? Do you have any flags set?

Currently, I have it back up to 4.8, and am getting 29.39 frametimes on a 6901 (38k ppd)... that is low...

The flags that are set are -smp -bigadv

Is hyperthreading enabled? Is your processor at 100% utilization? Maybe try -smp 8 -bigadv. Are there any other programs running?

What are you measuring ppd with? Use HFMon and use consistent settings, also make sure you started at the same time, as the bonuses depend upon the time at which you submit the result, not how quickly you did the computation...

First, run wPrime or something similar to make sure it is not a legitimate performance issue with your OS/install/HDD/drivers/config, then grab a new WU and start again, and give us more information!

I wasn't comparing ppd, I was comparing frame times (which would be realtime performance).

This system is rock solid, or at least it seems to be... it's been folding 24/7 for over a week now doing bigadvs.

HT is enabled, cpu is at 100% usage....

Ubuntu much? I want to keep this rig using win7 for several reasons...

Is it just this WU, or has it been happening for a while?
