soo RMA dead GTX 285, return with GTX 470, why I'm upset - Page 5

Guys what you fail to realize was the GTX 285 SLi could max every game I played still, I had no reason to upgrade. I was very happy with the performance. They were also massively overclocked.

End result is I'm not getting that much better performance. BC2 runs 120-130 FPS.. with my 285's it was 90-130FPS... not as solid but IMO it was NOT worth losing watercooling over it.

GTX 470 upgrade=overrated. I would have rather had my FTW overclock and dead silent video cards. Seriously, these things ******* suck they are SO LOUD.

Then tell that to EVGA, you want to use your water cooling and you have every right to feel that way.

It's the principle of the matter, as you spent extra money for cooling those cards, and you won't see a full return on your investment.

Well, to be accurate: with a nice OC (at 1920x1200 and below) they can hang with 6970's. At stock clocks the 6970 will definitely crush.

Thing about the 470's is that they were purposefully WAY underclocked. Had they put out the 470 at the same 702 core clock as the 480 (which every single one of them will easily do), nobody in their right mind would've spent the extra $150 (+43%) just to get an extra 8-10% performance. They definitely had to 'tone down' the power of the 470 to make the 480 look more superior than it really is.

With mine at max OC on air (855/1810/1.1V), which is a staggering 41% overclock, they are actually only about 15% behind stock SLI 580's (and 580's really don't have all that much OC'ing headroom in terms of %'s).

If one can find unlockable 465's nowadays they'll usually be going for like $150-$175, and I still say at that price there's absolutely nothing on the market that can touch the value of such cards for overclockers doing a single monitor setup.

hell no. 580's destroy any 470's. and 580's can get 1ghz core on air if you dare

But I would sell the blocks and not look back, 1 470 is on par with 2 285's.....
A 580 is about on par with 2 x 285s. Sell the 470s and buy used 285s, or sell it all and buy a 580.

Evga doesn't support aftermarket cooling, so I don't see why they should have to care about your waterblocks.

Sorry, but it is how it is.

This.

BUT BUT BUT I CAN GET WITHIN 15% PERFORMANCE RANGE OF A LAST GEN TOP CARD AT STOCK.

Compare OC with OC then you have a fair result.

I think I'm gonna sell the 470s... If anyone wants em, send me a pm I'll arrange a fair deal, otherwise I'm gonna check with facebook/craigs then ebay em after a week or so

The 470s perform, guys don't mistake that. I am very displeased with the noise though.
