HDMI and Input lag, need info

Thread Starter
I am really new to PC gaming, and I just got my new PC. I am using my 40" Samsung LCD/LED right now which I know now is not a great gaming TV due to input lag and response time. So what I am wondering is does it matter if I connect up a new PC monitor with DVI or HDMI? I know they basically have the same quality but HDMI carrys sound as well. I have read that HDMI off a video card can increase input lag and response time. Is this true?

I am thinking about getting a Dell 2311H or Viewsonic VX2268WM in a week or so.

Any help would be great. I am a total novice to this so bare with me. I need a boild down simple explanation as to what is best. I know a lot say just stick with CRT for gaming or a TN panel monitor but I really do want to have a good picture as well.

I'm using HDMI through a receiver to my monitor and haven't noticed input lag.
