Semi open is the cheap way of saying closed.

You can take your pick really in that price range, they'll all be fine if you stick to good brands.

Or just keep saving, which is the more intelligent option. $100 opens alot more windows and $150 even moreso.

Wow, you can'y search "open cup" on google without getting pron.

Anyways, think of a coffee cup with a lid. If the lid is off, its open, if the lid is on, its closed, if the lid is partically on its semi opened.

Ah hah...

I was reading somewhere that Semi's incorporates all the good points of both open and closed with little to non of the bad points. Sounded too good to be true...

Anyway...I've come down to

Samson SR-850 semi open $60ish

Samson RH-600 open $60ish

Senn HD-515 open $60ish

ATH AD300 open hard to price as it goes from $50ish up to $80ish...

Superlux 668B semi open $50ish

I see that HeadFi thinks very highly of the Superlux 668B.

We only see the 60i for sale, for around $79...are they the same?

The kids are not too hot about the way they look to sit on the ear instead of around it.

I'll add it to the list and see what they say. I think they have a good selection to choose from

Paw Music.

And to the OP, I have the Samson RH600's. Great set of cans. The only drawback is that they get kind of uncomfortable after wearing them for a while. Not painful, but uncomfortable. They sit kind of awkwardly on my ears, and my head is not big by any stretch of the imagination. The sound quality is fantastic, though. I got them for slightly over $40 shipped and they're a great value for that price.

Oh, and the Samson SR850 and Superlux HD668B are basically the same thing. Superlux is an OEM for Samson. They look the same, too. They have the same drivers. The only difference is the headband across the top. If it's between these two, just go with the HD668B since it's cheaper (and some are saying the sound quality is slightly better).

Actually, the Samson SR850 should be ruled out completely. The Samson RH600 is Samson's top-end model and they cost the same as the SR850's where you are. So no matter how you slice it, there's a better option than the SR850 at the same price or cheaper.

well its not like OCN's a super audiophile forum
AD700/JVC headphones are decently priced and offer great performance.

I don't believe its practical to recommend someone the K701 if their operation budget won't allow them to buy all the necessary gear to make the headphones sound great (not to mention the headphones themselves cost $200+)
