Asus Xonar DS would be my first choice, followed by the Auzentech.

The Auzentech may be a better card, but I've never had any experience with the brand (so I can't recommend it).

they aren't neccessairly baaad. The ones there are. I have had problems with low end creative sound cards in either the audio quality or build quality.

The x-fi chips aren't half bad. They give nice effects as they are more geared towards software processing then other audio chips. They can make VERY good positioning effects...but the ones you have selected, even if you get the full effects of the x-fi chip you won't get the audio performance from the components itself.

I couldn't remeber if I had the auzentech xplosion or ....soemthing else that looked VERY similar. But if they are similar, then the xplosion is actually pretty fair beans....especially compared to the others there.

I would hardly consider them bad if you're talking about a real X-Fi card (unlike that XtremeAudio). They aren't the best value if you pay full price but they have their advantages over CMedia based cards especially in FPS gaming.

Yea if it's for music in particular, than your best bet is the Asus Xonar DX/D, and since you're in CA, errr actually someone is selling one used over on Head-Fi, otherwise there are rebates or the very rare sale for them.
