You can, but it will be very stuttery.

It whould have to swap framebuffers constantly, putting stress on teh HDD and ram

The vram on both cards absolutely is utilized in SLI mode. What makes you think it is not headscratch.gif

And there's no cost-effective, practical way that one could share the memory between the cards, due to the lack of bandwidth connecting the cards, + the inherent memory concurrency issues, + the likely need for customized SLI game code (rather than just driver code as is the case now for SLI/AFR).

Not to mention a way higher cost on every card due to the need for much more sophisticated memory controllers ... that would only be used in a small percentage of cases.

Bottom-line, it's not technically impossible, but it's never going to happen because it makes no economic sense vs. the much cheaper/simpler solution of just adding more memory to each card.

i run gta iv 4x aa at 1200p on my 460's all day. Just so long as you dont crank the detail and viewing distance all the way up and keep night shadows off you should be just fine at 4xaa.

Gta iv is a demanding game nonetheless. Reason i bought my 570's.

Yep, speaking from experience, I had no trouble at all on my SLId 460s @ 1920 x 1200 on my 28" Monitor!

Only one I did see slight problems with was Metro 2033 - But i believe most cards cant play it maxed at full high details at that res with all the fancy crap turned on!

Going AMD isn't that bad, really, haha. If I don't get those cards of yours due to not getting paid fully for military(only get one week of pay due to military), I'll be going red most likely with one card, then adding a second later.

naw its not. I wasnt saying red it bad, just saying 2gb nvidia cards is a good alternative. honestly if i could do it over, i would've gone 2x 6950 flash to 6970.

But now i got 4 video cards and i only need to keep two. so whichever 2 sells first i keep the other. Im hoping the 460's sell cuz i really dont want to have to get rid of my shiny new 570's

Yeah, downgrading would suck, and I'll get those for sure if I have enough money on my birthday. 2GB 460s look good, but for 1200p 1gb should do fine.
