Yeah, they are crippling themselves, their one chance to not **** it up and they are blowing it. Paul Thurrot can't figure it out either.

iPhones are popular because they have solid hardware, a solid OS, and TONS of apps. Main reason I chose my iPhone 4 over any android or windows device was the apps. Sure they are "cool" to people who buy apple stuff because it has the shinny logo on it, but not all of us do.
i agree, i do really like the iphone (had 3 iphones and used it for 4 years), its a stable platform for a mobile phone (apps, os and music), but i found the OS after awhile to get boring and lacked a bit of personalization with out jail breaking, but i will say that the os is very well designed, Mac integration (facetime, calender, itunes etc) , and that is also some other reason some of users to choose an iphone not just because to be part of a crowd.

The reason the HTC hd2 wont be getting Windows phone 7 all came down to the front buttons, technically the hd2 does meet the requirements to run it (processing power, ram, camera, etc) but since it didnt have the 3 basic button requirements (windows, back and search[mostly because of the lack of search]) microsoft couldnt give the okay for it. Although Microsoft does allow manufacturers to add their own buttons, it has to have those 3 to be "allowed". which seriously does suck, i wou;d thing they could allow a remap of the key or something :\\ but they put the requirements so that they wouldnt have the problems they had with some their past mobile operating systems .

Actually all the think tanks are projecting the windows 7 phone to be number two because Nokia, who sells more phones than anyone else, made a deal to use Windows 7 mobile instead of their Symbian or whatever it was.

It is THE most underrated consumer technology device out there.

I find it sad that noone will give it the time of day. It is an awesome piece of technology and I cannot see how anyone could think an Iphone or droid/android is better.

I played with a couple droid/androids and they are a 90% copy of an iphone. The WP7 is completely different and is unique.

I have the Samsung Focus and it is awsome, and the screen is AMAZING!

I have two gripes.
----The buttons on the bottom are touch senstive and I have hit the back, home, and bing buttons hundreds of times when I am doing something making me exit them. Usually this isnt that bad but when you are in a game it really blows.
----Some apps will run in the background and suck your battery dry. There should be a universal setting so all apps stop when you lock the screen

My question: On my iPhone when I get a Gtalk message in Meebo, it displays the message in the alert but then when I load up Meebo it has to REdownload the message. Drives me up the wall. WinMo7 better at this? Same for Facebook/emails.

I agree. iOS is a very stable platform with a ton of apps, but I've always felt "restricted" by the platform. If the next iPhone "5" is promising enough I might consider that.

So if I buy a WP7 phone I can't get software updates?

Honestly, that's somewhat of a lame reason to avoid Windows OS phones. Your old phone ran an old version of Windows, and you're expecting to get a free upgrade to a newer platform of the OS. That's kind of like saying, Windows 7 was released 3 months after I bought Windows Vista. My Vista system is fully capable of running 7, but I don't get a free upgrade to Windows 7. I'm going to stop buying Windows OSes now.

Now if Microsoft didn't allow software updates (i.e. WP7 v1.0 to WP7 v1.1) then that's a legitimate reason to complain about.

I can imagine those touch sensitive buttons to be a complete nuisance. When I hold my phone horizontally (i.e. web browsing) my hand normally covers the corners of the phone. When I was playing with the phone at the store my skin hit one of the touch sensitive buttons and exited out of the browser or whatever app I'm using.

Just saying that WP7 can get updates (some phones already have got their updates [tmobile] and others are get theirs soon), the first NoDo update is coming out in the next 2 weeks actually which is to pring a huge performance boost to current phones, along with copy paste feature.

With the samsung focus the touch sensitive buttons can be an issue.. mostly when i play games in landscape.. i sometimes hit the search button from a frantic gaming or something, but the game usually (when you exit on the games i play) set on pause so you can pick up where you left off

For my email i use hotmail, which when you get an email it shows a 1 on the email tile (for 1 new email), when you click on it the email is already loaded onto the phone. it also allows you to delete emails and organize them into folders so when you log in on a web browser its already deleted or organized.

In terms of facebook when i get a new message it shows it in the people section (which holds contacts and current things that are posted on your facebook stream) it already has the last stream loaded from when you last opened the peoples tile, but when you open it the stream will be updated again (takes about 3-5 seconds).

I dont use gtalk or mebo so i cant comment on those

As a Dell Venue Pro user, I really like WP7 as a platform. I think it currently competes very well with last years offerings. I don't mean this to be a knock on it, but I'm realistic. It needs more apps (which are coming a good rate) and multitasking (coming with 'Mango') to be on par with what is available now from Android and Apple. It is a truly different kind of smartphone experience. I think if they execute on their updates with minimal interference from carriers and Nokia brings some hardware heat, they will be very competitive going forward.

Upcoming "Mango" update features:

Android can clone it with a Launcher and it seemed to be ok as a phone, but I don't see why anyone would choose it over another OS. There is nothing killer about it, otherwise I would have heard it, or have been unable to live without it. Android can clone any OS's interface to a point, Apple is the Windows of phones, with quality apps and games, and W7 phone is...? I don't see where it fits, and why a launcher clone with Android couldn't just beat it. It has no games that are special to make it a worthwhile purchase, and as the first generation of a device, it is nothing but a testbed. Older OSes do better in this regard, but until I hear something amazing it does that nothing else does, I don't care for it.
