1GB of space missing after a 64MB Windows update?

So today, I noticed there are new security updates for Windows. After filtering out the ones I didn't want to install, it came down to about 15 updates worth 64MB.

However, after updating and restarting my computer, 1GB of space is missing from my SSD.

Btw, my update settings are set to check for updates, but do not download/install until I confirm which updates I want.

Does anyone know what happened to the missing space?

The updates to expand upon installing (think zip file), but 64MB to 1GB is pretty hefty. Try restoring back to before you installed the updates to see if the space comes back. Or uninstall the 15 updates by hand.

Hmm... I have restore disables so I can't restore back to before the update.

If I uninstall the update, will that also uninstall the program that was updated or will that only uninstall the update?

Also, if anyone else have any ideas, that would be greatly appreciated.

it will uninstall the update which will rollback in sense your program to what the version was before you updated it.....

You should get another drive and have the restore images placed there....its always a good idea to keep a good month- three month backup(specially if you are learning alot and trying new things -like those speed tweaks and all that jazz)

Ah, thanks. That clears things up a bit.

Btw, whenever there are security updates for Windows, should I bother updating them if I'm already using Microsoft Security Essentials and don't plan on doing anything stupid?

Yes there separate you should keep your system up todate

windows update will recognize the MSE but the security updates are for the OS it self not MSE (microsoft security essentials)
