Need Help Finding a Motherboard and RAM

Thread Starter
I'm back at it, after being a year and a half removed from the computer scene. A friend asked me to do a build for him. The budget is between 800-1000 so i have a lot of room to work with. What i'm looking for right now is a cost-efficient, yet reliable and good motherboard and RAM. So far this is what i have:

LITE-ON SATA DVD Burner

Cooler Master HAF 922

Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB

XFX HD6950

Corsair 750TX PSU

AMD Phenom II X4 955

I appreciate any input. THANK YOU!

G.skill Ripjaws and perhaps an ASRock mobo. They are both usually pretty cheap and decent at the same time.

$63 for 500GB HDD....
Ehhh, I'd take an F3 1TB 2x space and faster for a lower price and call it a day

I know this is the AMD section and I have a lot of love for AMD, but if he can get a 2500k for that budget, that would be optimal with this combo.

I'd have to agree with PowerTrip. For that price range, the 2500k would be the better buy.

That isn't a bad deal, but I dislike the Mobo. It has one PCI Express slot. Sucks if you want to CF later down the road.

Yeah, I agree as well. With the 2500K it's a great build.

Thanks for the input guys. The only problem is that it is for a friend and he really doesn't know much about computers. Therefore, the one thing he does want is that particular case, being as its the only thing he can judge on whats good or bad. but i'll definitely look into the 2500k, all i need is a good motherboard, and a good set of RAM.
