Ugh, I'm stuck between both the ST and Titanium, reading through the whole thread helped and made things harder to choose at the same time

Currently I'm using onboard audio with some lousy logitech 2.1 speakers; I do have the AD700s though. Had an old Audigy 2 installed but removed it recently, testing to figure out if it was the source of my BC2 randomly locking up and forcing a hard reset.

The ST/X thing about managing different inputs at the same time is really nice so that'd help me in re: to not having to unplug/swap the speaker and headphone inputs. The Asus cards also have an headphone amp too which is nice.

If BC2 was the only game I played, then I'd have gone for the Titanium; but I play many different types of games and listen to all sorts of different music. So I might just resort to getting the ST.

Unfortunately, the H6 isn't exactly sold locally in store anymore so that does put a stop to any thoughts of having surround sound setup, correct? Unless I connect things like this:

Asus ST -> optical -> receiver -> speakers?

Or should I just save my money and get the Asus DX/DG? With the DX I'd have to buy an amp just to get more bang out of the headphones, yeah?

If you're going to be using a receiver via digital out for the speakers, money is wasted on a high end card. The most important component on the card is the DAC, and the receiver is doing all the decoding anyways. I don't think the AD700 really need an amp, but it wouldn't hurt them. In your case, I'd probably just choose to save a ton of money and get the DG.

I just got the Titanium HD, sounds amazing with BC2, can't believe I've been gaming with on board sound. Never again!! All I need now is a amp to push my hd595's. Looking at the Fiio E9. I heard it's a great combo over at the hifi forums.

The HD595 does not benefit from an amp if you have the TiHD.

Great topic, am currently trying to decide which of these two cards to choose myself, and i must say, it isn't easy. As it looks HD wins for gaming, music seems to be equal, and connectivity goes to the STX.

I do a lot of gaming, but i also hear a lot of music, am also looking at maybe getting a speaker setup in the future, but currently am only using headphones(Sennheiser PC350), though am gonna get me a pair of new headphones as well, some that is a bit more centered towards music, as i ain't too happy with the PC350 when it comes to music, want more punch and richer sound, if that's something i can say. When it comes to gaming the setup is okay, but lacks a lot when it comes to music i think(Creative X-FI Xtrememusic is my soundcard btw).

In the start i was only thinking of buying a external headphone amp and new headphones, but after finding out about these soundcards with built in amps, i got curious and want to test em out. So am looking to get a new soundcard(with built in amp) and headphones, and i find out that i don't like this built in amp, and can just buy an external one at a later date.

But anyway, choosing the soundcard really found it self to be a hard task...

Still is there nothing about a fix for the TiHD's issue from a simultaneous conection between headphones on dedicated rear ports and speaker on specific rear ports, that prevents switching between both, hp and spk, without a headphone disconnection?
