On a another note, PLEASE STOP REQUESTING REP AGAIN!! I pmed you a couple times and explain why you shudnt and also the fact that its against the tos.
Saying to rep anyone who helped is not against the TOS, already talked to a mod about it, we had a nice chat. Also, a grain of rice amount is way to little for a gtx460, if I was to apply that much I'd get so much higher temps and probably fry the card.

If you're serious, it goes between the chip's heatsinks and the cooler's heatsink, just like every other TIM application on the planet.

OP you can't ask for rep, its against ToS
post #15 of 23
Pictures would make this post a lot more believable. I just can't believe that a small dab is his 'improperly applied' method - unless he has a heatsink with direct contact heatpipes (with channels that would prevent the TIM from spreading properly).

Essentially what I'm saying is that we need more information as to what type of heatsink base this was, and what the 'proper' and 'improper' methods of applying paste to it were.

Frankly, no one seems to want to agree on whether spreading it out is better than a small dab (though it does vary between heatsink bases).

So all these days and days of testing for 6 small lines of data and no pictures? Hmm...

Sorry, didn't help me at all... No rep for you!

my bad I meant that for the cpu, a cross for femi is good or a pea size in the middle.

By the way regarding rep read this:
http://www.overclock.net/faqs/19472-...overclock.html

'Saying to rep anyone who helped is not against the TOS' thats correct, however, does not need to be illustrated and when you add 'If this post' or anything along those lines is against the TOS. As you have seen the mod removed the rep request. Not having a go at you, but just find rep requesting to be annoying and a bit 'begging'

EDIT: this is more update to date, fantastic read!! http://www.overclock.net/overclock-n...ep-system.html

No one cares he's not even begging lol. It is nothing more than reminding people to be appreciative and give rep if they received help. There are alot of people that have their questions answered and don't pass out rep. Its really no big deal. Clearly no one else has a problem with it.

On a positive note: nice temps! I was planning on picking up some thermal paste for my CPU and my 460s.

I would definitely recommend ic7, my gpu idles at 23/24c and loads 42/43 in gaming, thats mostly because of the waterblock but im sure the paste did help. I did do a little test with 4 pastes (mx2, mx3 shint etsu (blue cap) and the ic7, after curing mx2 and mx3 performed quite well closely follwed by shint etsu but after a 24 hour curing of ic7 I saw an improved 3/4c difference between the rest.

Btw he requested rep for himself aswell and mod removed it .
