Windows 7 flavour sizes

Thread Starter
Gidday,

I just bought an SSD 60gb drive for my better half's Asus EeePC 1000H. I've very cheerfully run Ultimate on it b4. So I'm about to do a clean install to the SSD and, as I'm trying to conserve space, I was wondering if anybody had any idea what the size difference between Home Premium Sp1 and Ultimate Sp1 ends up being?

Is it significant? Because if it isn't I will just stick to the Ultimo flavour.

Cheers,
Jem

PS: I noticed it seems to be impossible now to download the specialist Win7 drivers for the 1000H from Asus. I have them. They work fine. Would it be a good idea for me to post a personal link in another thread to them? It might help someone out.

No difference between those two, only between 64bit and 32bit.
32bit: 44.3 MB
64bit : 73.7 MB
Both require close to 1GB of space

I'm sorry but I don't really understand your answer. Win7 seems to take up about 12gb on an install. (Are you talking about the level of compression on a SandForce SSD?) But I get the impression from you that it makes bugger all difference in size... just price.

The comparison chart at MS seems to back it up... I can't see anything that would take up a significant amount of space. The XP Mode stuff might... but it has to be downloaded separately. The extra 32 languages wouldn't take up much room, right?

Just to get this straight... the difference in install size between the 32 bit Home Premium and Ultimate is about 44.3 MB?

"She thing"... ??? heh

If you mean the SSD... I'll get back to you. I've read others have so I'm pretty confident.

UPDATE: Yep, she sure is.

It only seems to be loading at least twice as fast but it seems a lot slicker. For instance, the connection to the home N wireless and internet seems almost instant! Connecting to the local network (other home computers) takes 2.5 secs. And bizarrely it's using less ram... around a third less! I have 2gb, it's dropped from roughly %55 to %37. Which is even more weird as I adjusted the pagefile down to 600 mb fixed.

Sorry but that's not correct. The DVD it comes on is 3.7 GB. How can the install be less than the dvd size

Not only that but it's a verbatim copy of Dan's post (see post #2)!

Windows 7 Ultimate X32 will take about 12 Gig of space after installtion,
Windows 7 Ultimate X64 will take between 14 to 20 Gig of space after installation (due to Installed RAM size amount),

After being fully tweaked and compressed,
Windows 7 Ultimate X32 will be between 5 to 6 Gb,
Windows 7 Ultimate X64 will be between 7 to 12 Gb,

You have to remeber that Windows 7 X64 basically has two Operating sytems incorporated in to ONE

Sorry I missed the replies in this, going by the above I thought you were refering to the service pack size.
