True. Though it's still pretty impressive.

It rides on the back of a PLANE, and you think it can ride on the back of a TRUCK?! It's not that much smaller than that 747. It is physically impossible to put this thing on any normal road-legal flatbed trailer. First, it's as long as FOUR of them. Second, just the fuselage is wider than three highway lanes, and with the full wingspan, there is hardly a highway anywhere that could accommodate it. And then there are bridges.

This all makes me think that each of the shuttles will have to be partly or completely disassembled in order to be moved through the urban areas to which they'll be going.

No doubt that thing is impressive. It is a definite marvel of brute strength.

I agree you would never move it fully assembled not with the wings and such attached at least. The shuttle is a little over 150 ft long. I have seen loads hauled that long before. The key is getting the width and height profiles down which with those removed I think would be manageable.

Initially I was talking about the weight of the load which would not be hard to do on a truck at all. Sure its overweight for normal loads but not heavy compared to many heavy haul loads.

here is a site with some impressive loads being hauled. Both in weight and length. http://www.dandgheavyhaul.com/pics.html

yeah at only 165000 pounds its light compared to come of those loads...
at 28.5 feet wide, it is a little wider than the object in the first picture you showed.
but its pretty damn long and wide at the same time. not to mention tall... possibly they will fly the damn thing (on the back of the 747) to the nearest airport then transfer it via truck after that. (broken down or not)
