Voltage help for 4x2gb

Thread Starter
I have 4x2gb g.skill ripjaws I'm going to be putting in. Right now they are running at 9-9-9-24 2T at 1.62v with only 2x2gb

I was wondering when i put in the other 2 sticks how much or if I even have to change the voltage on the memory to keep them at 1600mhz
And would I need to change the timing?

All you may have to do is bump the CPU-NB voltage up a notch or 2,the timings look stock so your good to go.
when you have installed the sticks, run memtest86 for a couple of passes to make sure they are good.
You may want to consider increasing your NB multi so your NB is running at 2.6Ghz ish, this will give you a real world performance boost.
As with all clocking, one change at a time and test,Test,TEST!!

on a side note, your cpu voltage seems a little high for the clock speed,is that auto settings?
Remember that increasing the cpu-nb voltage will generate more heat for the stock cooler to shift, maybe consider an aftermarket cooler? and plenty of case fans!

I don't believe you even need to, aren't they rated 1.5V?
Oh and is your 955 a C3 stepping? (Be sure or you'll have to downclock to 1333Mhz, though you can lower the timings again to compensate)

my voltage is stock for the CPU(ya auto setting), bios wouldnt let me put it any lower.
what should I bump the NB and NB multi to?
Ya my cpu on a stress test maxed out at 62c, I'm looking for a new cooler, just on a budget right now, any one you would recommend?

And Im assuming mine is c3, HDZ955FBGMBOX is my model number from what I checked it is

"M" in model number so it is C3, you are good

As you move the NB multi up,it will tell you what the new speed is. Aim for the 2600 mark, obviously this dependant on stabilty. Dont change the NB voltage, just the CPU NB voltage, and only change it one step at a time if you come across instability.

Memtest from boot and prime95 blend when you are in your OS enviroment, run these for as long as you can.

1.4v is the Official limit but users here often run up to 1.55v,i must stress that these voltages are with an aftermarket cooling option.

As for cooling, thats all opinion, some like air cooling, others are all about water.
The 212+ keeps coming up in topics, maybe good for you also? the top end freezer pro's are good on a budget but all air coolers require good case air movement to work effectively.

Look to the left of the CPU socket, see those little black squares? not the 4/5 big cubes, the ones next to them? They are your mosfets, they are the 'funnels' for all the power going thru your board. They must have decent airflow across them as they get very warm...very warm indeed if your O/C'ing. xd1771 can give you more info on your board specs or go to gigabyte's wp. You can get heatsinks for these but i understand you are on a budget (maybe a future purchase?)

I know i have bombarded you with info, mostly off topic, but all these things are 'bedrock' knowledge and will serve you well.
