Best low end netbook?

Thread Starter
Hello, mobile computer forumgoers!

Was considering getting a smartphone until I noticed netbooks are in the same price range nowadays, so I'm wondering what is the best I can do within my low budget.

Budget is in the region of £90 to maybe £130 tops.

Not looking for a speedy machine with graphics capable of running CS:S or anything, just a netbook for carrying around, surfing the web, writing stuff and maybe casual flash gaming.

As much hard drive space as possible would be nice, that's my only peeve with netbooks. Tiny hard drives!

Any and all input appreciated

i picked up my hp 311c for £160 quid on ebay, and its pretty godly ( can play modernwarfare on low settings )... but i would definitely take a look at ebay.

that budget puts you around the acer aspire one or MSI U130 series i think

I don't really want to pay for an OS I'm not going to use, these 'starter' and 'netbook' editions are so gimmicky and limited that I'm not even going to bother.

Gonna try and find somewhere I can buy from who will sell one without the OS on for a reduced price.. maybe direct from the manufacturer.

An Asus 1001P or PE is your best bet. 10 inch screen with a 6 cell battery and an Atom 450. I upgraded it with a 2gb stick of G-skill 800mhz ram for 30$.

It runs windows 7 ultimate perfectly. I highly recommend it.

Something like this would be perfect:

I was just about to recommend the same thing. The only downside is that the 1001P doesn't have easy access to the hard drive (it's practically booby-trapped) and they usually come with 320gigs.

Not sure if that's what you consider "tiny" or not redface.gif

I got my Samsung N150 for £160 from the shop, i wouldnt say its low end though.

It runs Windows 7 ultimate as fast as my desktop does. (Ive tested this)

It can also run:
XP Home & Pro >> both are really fast.
Vista Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate >> all at vista normal speeds.
Windows 7 Basic (comes pre-installed) Home premium, Ultimate >> all run like a dream.

To watch 720p video you might wanna head for XP to relief some stress of the GPU.

Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Samsung-N150-JP0L-Netbook-Win7-2GB-Ram-Upgrade-/130506778263?pt=UK_Computing_Laptops_EH&hash=item1e62cf6697#ht_662wt_1139 smile.gif

Just abit over budget but still really worth it tongue.gif

It's on auction with over a day left, it'll go for little under RRP.

But yeah, thanks for the recommendation. I'll hunt around.
