Need Some 3D Mark 06 Help!

Thread Starter
Hey guys.

I've got a LAN this weekend and part of the tournament ($150 prize) is a competition for the best 3D Mark 06 score in both an Intel and AMD machine.

I'm entering Nexus (Below in my signature) into the competition however I need some advice on how to milk some more performance from my machine. I've included the results of some previous benching below (Note: The last field is empty as the CPU didn't handle the OC I put on it).

Code:
-----------------------------

STOCK SETTINGS

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.2Ghz
RAM: 4GB DDR3 Kingston
GPU: HIS Radeon 6850 x2 CrossFire Stock

SCORE: 16,992

SM2.0 Score: 6,736
HDR/SM3.0 Sore: 8,261
CPU Score: 4,441

-----------------------------

OVERCLOCKED CPU

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.6Ghz
RAM: 4GB DDR3 Kingston
GPU: HIS Radeon 6850 x2 CrossFire Stock

SCORE: 19,603

SM2.0 Score: 7,248
HDR/SM3.0 Sore: 10,304
CPU Score: 4,889

-----------------------------

OVERCLOCKED CPU & GPU #1

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.6Ghz
RAM: 4GB DDR3 Kingston
GPU: HIS Radeon 6850 x2 CrossFire 1050MHz Memory Clock - 800Mhz Core Clock

SCORE: 19,674

SM2.0: 7,253
HDR/SM3.0: 10,343
CPu Score 4,925

-----------------------------

OVERCLOCKED CPU & GPU #2

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.85Ghz
RAM: 4GB DDR3 Kingston
GPU: HIS Radeon 6850 x2 CrossFire 1100MHz Memory Clock - 850Mhz Core Clock

SCORE: 20,792

-----------------------------

OVERCLOCKED CPU & GPU #3

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 4.11Ghz
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600 Mhz G-Skill RipJaws X
GPU: HIS Radeon 6850 x2 CrossFire 1100MHz Memory Clock - 850Mhz Core Clock

SCORE:
SM2.0:
HDR/SM3.0:
CPU:

Score:
I'm going to try and run it again with the CPU at circa 4.00 Ghz, and potentially 4.1 Ghz again if I can get the OC stable.

I've pushed my graphics cards as far as MSI Afterburner will allow, even with unofficial overclocking enabled in the Config file of the program.

Any suggestions or ideas?

EDIT: Thought it would be worth adding that the competition is just the default 3D Mark 06 testing.

So you start the program and bench your PC without changing any of the 3D Mark 06 settings.

I don't know AMD, but at least with intel using windows XP 32 bit can give some extra points in 3dmark 06, it generally gives a better cpu score & higher overall score. Check out blackviper's site for tips on stripping the OS, every little bit helps.
Of course overclock the gpus as much as possible, but really work on the cpu clocks, that's where you will really see the biggest gains. Not just in the cpu score but the gpu scores go up with higher cpu clocks.

Only thing you can do is higher cpu overclock. Your GPU scores are about the same as an overclocked 6850 so crossfire won't help unless you have a crazy fast CPU(which you don't).

Short of doing a suicide run and screwing around with Catalyst options, CPU speed will be the only thing to help you.

XP 32bit will give a big boost in points with AMD too. I can get ~1500 more points just by using XP 32 instead of Win7 with my 1055t.
