why do people like reference cards? - Page 4

Reference cards are made from much much higher quality PCB components.

Non reference cards are mainly built to lower the cost of producing the card so the vendor can make more money, They do this by using cheaper PCB components.

This is not totally true, there are some non ref cards out there that smoke the reference counterpart with better quality parts, example is the asus 4890 top with the figitsu cap on the bottom, that card was incredible. Everything from the cooler to the components used screamed quality, but asus never released a bios update so people could control the second fan. That is why I like reference cards because there are no issues like that. I would also prefer to take a card designed by a major company like amd then a card designed by a smaller vendor.

Hmmm. you proved my point. lets look at some newegg reviews on that non-reference card shall we?

#1- card runs idle at 60c at idle with fanspeed at 25%
#2- the thermal pads on the voltage regs. they are of a very very cheap material. i was wonderng why my vregs were hitting 130C when i played CSS. popped the cooler off and of course, it was the green thermal pads that fall apart after about a days use

I know that you get super duper versions of cards but those versions are by far out numbered by the cost reducing versions.

Not too sure what the attitude is for but whatever.

You should take a look at your own post. In the first sentence, you claim that "reference cards are made with higher quality pcb components" you are clearly comparing reference cards to non reference cards. I did not post anything about the cost of production which you talk about later on in your post. I was replying to your first statement and showed that you are WRONG.
