[BBC] Fujitsu offers UK fast rural broadband network

Fujitsu is to create a superfast broadband network for rural parts of the UK, rivalling BT's service.

Virgin Media and TalkTalk have already said they will use it to provide internet services. It will also be open to local authorities.

Much of the system will be built on BT infrastructure, such as underground ducting and phone poles, which it has been forced to open up to competitors.

do want. I'm only getting 10Mb down at the moment on horrible copper lines. The UK really does have a patchy internet infrastructure.

You can say that again, I've been stuck on 2Mb for as long as I can remember.

Interesting article though. I'd love to have a decent 10Mb connection. Also, I'm with TalkTalk. Yay!

Unless Virgin start to rent out there fibres to other companys then this is a one way train in Virgins favour as they're the only ones with nationwide fibre optics.

BT and all the company's that rent/use copper BT lines won't have access to any of this as you need fibre.

And iirc ~10mb is around the max for copper lines, Anything higher and it's time to call up Virgin for a nice fibre line

Sounds good if it happens. Can't wait to get over 1.5Mb downloads out here in the sticks.
